What a great few days with #RTRS in Ghent, Belgium focusing on sustainability and soy. This year’s conference discussed how regenerative agriculture should be the next goal for soy farmers. I spoke about decarbonization opportunities in non-traditional markets.
Michelle Morton explores innovative new opportunities for soy - bringing soy to the sky, sea, chemicals and beyond. In the session ‘Innovations: highlighting changes that can increase performance and opportunities’, Michelle brought her expertise in the sustainability of biofuels. Michelle worked for over 30 years in the oil and gas sector in a range of roles, before focusing on sustainability for biofuels, biogas, and hydrogen. She spent significant time working with Bonsucro, RTRS and RSPO, supporting them in becoming recognised by the EC for the Renewable Energy Directive regulation. #RTRS2024Conference #ResponsibleSoy #Biofuels

Biofuels (biodiesel and renewable diesel) are a part of the consideration set for regulators and commercial fleets looking to reduce GHG emissions. However, it’s important to consider emissions from their entire lifecycle, from well to wheels. Life Cycle Assessment is a holistic methodology to assess and quantify estimated GHG emissions impacts throughout a product’s entire life cycle. For biofuels, life cycle assessments in regulatory programs typically focus on quantifying the carbon intensity of the fuel, or in other words, the cradle to grave greenhouse gas emissions in CO2 equivalents per unit of energy of the fuel. This includes inputs and outputs of the entire biofuel supply chain from feedstock cultivation to combustion in a vehicle. 🏭 As global climate targets veer off-track and industry CO2 emissions remain heavily reliant on fossil fuels, the rise of renewable energy development underscores the urgent need for cleaner technologies. Biofuels emerge as a compelling alternative, offering a viable pathway toward greener and more sustainable industrial sectors. 📈 According to the most recent International Energy Agency (IEA) Report "Renewables 2023," total biofuel demand is projected to grow by 23% to 200 billion liters by 2028, with renewable diesel and ethanol leading the charge. Under the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) 1.5°C Scenario by 2050, biofuels are anticipated to represent 13% of the fuel mix in the transport sector alone. 🚌 In cooperation with Bioenergy International , the World Bioenergy Association is pleased to organize our 2nd webinar of 2024: ‘The future of liquid biofuels’. The webinar will gather biofuel producers, consumers, technology developers and associations from around the world to share the latest data on development of the biofuels sector as well as updates on policies, technologies, regulations, feedstock and markets. 👉 Register now at https://lnkd.in/d9rCYJP8 #LiquidBiofuels #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #WBAEvents

Driving forward with Biofuels 🚗 Biofuels serve as an alternative to fossil fuels in the EU transport sector, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Under the Renewable Energy Directive, EU countries are obligated to meet renewable energy targets in the transport sector by 2030 – which includes the incorporation of biofuels. SFW’s Gasification solutions support this target in allowing the production of biofuels, sustainable aviation and marine fuels for a decarbonized future. 🌍 Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dfvuv6cV #SumitomoSHIFW #Biofuels #EnergyTransition #Sustainability
