In a significant development for Brazil’s maritime industry, Raízen, a prominent integrated energy company in the country, has announced the launch of a new bunkering operation in the key ports of Belém and Vila do Conde, located in North Brazil. This expansion represents a major milestone for Raízen, as it extends its presence into vital hubs within the Amazon region, that serve as pivotal hubs for maritime activities, facilitating trade and commerce both within Brazil and beyond. Paula Georgopoulos Tinoco, Bunker Sales Coordinator at Raízen, shared about the development, stating, “This marks the full operation of our local physical bunker supply services, featuring the availability of VLSFO 380CST grade fuel. YILPORT Gävle welcomes CMA CGM Mermaid, the first LNG vessel to call at the container terminal!   The vessel, 204,29 meters long and 29,6 meters wide, holds a capacity of 2,000 TEUs and is part of CMA CGMs newest fleet of container ships. The new design offers better hydrodynamic performance to reduce fuel consumption by 15% per trip. The CMA CGM Mermaid is built to enhance energy efficiency and environmental performance by up to -20% CO2 emissions, compared to a similar-sized ship with a conventional maritime fuel design. As part of our ongoing commitment to water conservation, eight 270L-capacity rainwater harvesting systems were installed at Air Selangor’s regional offices at Hulu Langat and Sabak Bernam. These two new locations are now the fifth and sixth of our regional offices to install these systems, following Gombak and Kuala Langat in 2022, and Petaling and Klang in 2023. These installations are championed by the Water Conservation Unit within the Risk Management Department and demonstrate the availability of a simple, affordable, and maintenance-free solution to address water scarcity in local communities. Brake failure causes waste skip truck to rear-end a truck-trailer, and crash into toll-plaza infrastructure - Malaysia. * Once again, and such incidents are happening repeatedly, a truck carrying a waste skip suffered brake failure. * Fortunately, there were no casualties however, such incidents must be classified as NEAR MISSES. * But for the grace of god, nobody was killed or seriously injured. * However, such incidents place the spotlight on "vehicle condition", and potential threats to public safety. * Enforcement authorities conducting the investigation must review the inspection, service, repair and maintenance records for this waste-skip truck. * Vehicles of this nature with critiical component defects, plying Malaysia's highways and community roads are potential death traps. * Lives are at risk when heavy vehicles are unable to stop in normal traffic. * The operating standards of the waste skip transporting company should be reviewed, and appropriate action taken to prevent such a serious mishap occurring again.
