AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH! On Saturday 17th August, 2 of the team from So Fresh & So Clean UK Ltd, will take on mount Snowdon, in the first fundraiser for MoreSo - Clean Beginnings. Laura Dent and Louise Muir-Sage have decided to scale the highest peak in Wales, to raise awareness of the new charity which aims to provide individuals in the community living in unsafe conditions with deep home cleaning services. This will then allow those who need support to have a safe place to focus on recovery or treatment. This includes but is not limited to those with: Chronic Mental Health Issues Post-Partum Depression Chronic Illness (i.e. Cancer, Auto-Immune Disorder, Diabetes) Disability (Long or Short Term) Every day, hundreds of members of our community live in less than ideal conditions. Whether it be mental health, a chronic illness, or a long term disability, some individuals aren’t able to maintain their homes. When this is the case, their homes can become a prison. Everyone should be entitled to the safe and healthy space they may need to focus on treatment or recovery. That’s where we intend to come in. By giving them a clean home and access to other community resources, these people- our neighbours, our friends, our family- can have the chance to not just survive but thrive. The average length of stay for families in family emergency services is 35 days. The reason for homelessness varies for every client/family in Haven. Substance use is one reason for homelessness or can be the result of homelessness. Twenty-two percent of our clients self-report having a substance use problem. Nationally, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) estimates that roughly 38% of those experiencing homelessness suffer from an alcohol dependency while 26% abuse drugs. Treatment for substance use is critical to help clients transform their lives to find secure employment and housing. Currently, substance use treatment programs where families can stay together during treatment do not exist in San Antonio. In the following year, this will change. Haven is proud to partner with Lifetime Recovery and Pay it Forward SA to offer space where parents can seek recovery services and stay with their children while sheltering at Haven and receiving other services provided on its 22-acre campus. Today, World Suicide Prevention Day, is a day to reflect on the vital importance of community and connection in our lives. It serves as a reminder that, in our moments of struggle, we must remember that we are not alone. There is always hope, and there is a path leading us toward a brighter future. Suicide stands as the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. In 2022 alone, approximately 1.6 million people attempted suicide. This data underscores a sobering reality: it is likely that we all know someone who is grappling with thoughts of suicide right now. GROW Restored is actively working to intersect with people who need an extra level of care in dealing with their feelings of loneliness and disconnection. We provide scholarships to help offset the cost of counseling so that people can connect with the help they need to thrive and enjoy a full life. In 2022, there were an estimated 1.6 million suicide attempts and 49,476 Americans who died by suicide. Suicide is reported as the 11th leading cause of death in the US. (https://lnkd.in/gghMGqzj) As HR professionals, we have a unique opportunity to engage with our employees on a regular basis and make them feel seen. Research shows that simply being there for somebody who is having thoughts of suicide can make a significant difference on whether or not they choose to act on those thoughts. It's important for us all to learn the signs and know how we can be prepared to help employees, friends, family, etc. in their time of need. I recently lost one of my best friends to suicide and have partnered with communities touched by her passing to install benches in their local parks to display the 988 Crisis and Suicide Hotline information and a message to all that we are glad you're here, you are not alone, and there is help available.
