Building new relationships was key to collaboration, as PEP ventured into settlements they hadn’t worked in before. Small communities of about fifty households were carefully chosen to support focused research and deeper connections. Over four weeks, students conducted interviews, mapped settlements, and assessed services while adapting to new methods and environments. Sharing sessions allowed for reflection, feedback, and transparency, fostering trust and mutual learning with community members. 👉 Click the link to read the full article 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dujMJKv9 #SouthAfrica #PEP #communitydevelopment #housing #community #activecitizens

SKILL SURGE Practical skills and entrepreneurial capacity is one of the recipes our education still need for better self-reliance and gross internal productivity. As a personal community development service (CDS) project, I was able to organise and train the students in my place of primary assignment (PPA), during my active National service year. #capacitybuilding #community_development_service #NYSC #SDGsAdvocateu

This week on our 'Interactive learning series': Scenario: A community has become reliant on aid after years of conflict, undermining local coping mechanisms and self-sufficiency. Best approach example: - Transition strategy: develop a transition plan that gradually shifts from direct aid to livelihood support and capacity building. - Community-led development: engage community members in identifying their own development priorities and build their capacity to lead projects. - Partnerships with local institutions: partner with local institutions to strengthen their ability to deliver services and support community development. Reducing aid dependency requires a strategic approach that empowers communities and builds local resilience. Read more on our localisation efforts here https://lnkd.in/d9wNgsQG

Power is a very abstract idea, a big and complicated concept. Each of us understands it in our own way, within the context of the issues we work on, the people we work with, what we have read about it, or based on our own experiences of power. The purpose of this Unpacking Power course is to sort out the confusion and help us move to a shared understanding of power so that all of us who are committed to community development or social justice can build our strategies from a more comprehensive, shared definition and analysis of power as it operates in society, regardless of our specific issues, or socio-economic, political and cultural contexts. The chains of development. Managing the expectations of rural communities is a huge challenge for projects. The perception that developers have unlimited or huge readily available funds to make things happen is common in all communities. In addition, they wrongly percieved, developers will support any kind of requests. In addressing this, it is very important to inform the people, the truth on the project, the limitations, laws and policies guidelines that govern the industry. For example, many communities have church groups that do their own things among their groupings. Having crusades, youth camps, women gatherings, etc. These activities provide potential reasons to seek funding support from developers. In such cases, what should you as a Community Liaison Officer or Community Development Officer do?

We’re thrilled to share our 2024 Impact Report and express our deepest gratitude to each of you who make Agassiz Village possible. Your support helps us bridge the opportunity gap for children from low-income households who might not otherwise have access to enriching summer experiences. This year, 31% of our campers were registered as refugees, experiencing homelessness, or in foster care, and thanks to you, they experienced the life-changing magic of Agassiz Village. Research shows that children with 1-4 out-of-school opportunities like summer programs are 50% more likely to graduate from college and can earn $10,000 more annually by age 26.
