Given the significant Irish presence in the US and their influence within the US government, ‘Israel’ would be making a grave mistake if it follows through with threats or actions against the Irish UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. The Irish-American community has historically stood for justice, and an attack on Irish soldiers—who are there to maintain peace—could very well signal the beginning of the end for ‘Israel’s’ unchecked belligerence. Would they be that foolish to provoke such powerful voices? Let’s not forget: ‘Israel’ has already demanded the Irish leave Lebanon, and now they have tanks pointing at peacekeepers. If they escalate this, it would not only be an international disaster but a catastrophic diplomatic error with far-reaching consequences in Washington. Listen up ‘Israel’ - Mess with the Irish peacekeepers, and you’re messing with one of the most powerful diasporas in the US—you wouldn’t survive the diplomatic fallout. Pointing a tank at Irish UN peacekeepers is more than a threat—it’s an invitation for diplomatic isolation and the loss of key alliances.

The West must re-think the projects in those countries given their support for war-criminal Putin. We are not only talking about the survival of democracy in Ukraine but the whole free world.

There are many that argue that the integrity of Ukraine’s borders are a matter for debate. That peace will be brokered when the invaders are rewarded with slices of the cake. Placate them and they will go away. If we placate #Russia, they will come back, stronger, more entitled and at a time of their own choosing. This is not scaremongering or flights of fancy. If we want to avoid the same fate in #Riga, #Vilnius or #Tallinn, we stop them now. On this day of #Ukrainan statehood, take a second to ask yourself how much of your own state you’d sacrifice to aggressors, and then re-commit to ensure that every millimetre of #Ukraine is #Ukrainan and none will be ceded to #Russia, or it’s litany of malignant ‘allies.’ Slava Ukrani. This Aljazeera video looks back on two years of Russian aggression in Ukraine. It lays bare that all Ukraine's immense efforts and sacrifices over the past two year may be in vain if the EU and the USA allow minority interest groups to hijack their political system. Russia is trying to beat western aspirations out of the Ukrainians. At the same time western ideology is under attack from inside. What happened to the ideals of enlightenment that were at the base of the French and the American revolution? Trump, Orban, Wilders and the like have little notion of the hard earned freedoms we gained by depending on our ratio and recognizing we don't need a strongman to govern ourselves. Are we going to allow them to take our freedom? Will we abandon the Ukrainians in their fight for freedom?

Impressive speech with clear and precise definitions.

It was a privilege to testify in the congressional hearing organized by the US Helsinki Commission on Russia’s war in Ukraine. The testimony is available here: https://lnkd.in/euAHJ3kc. Key points: -      The most advantageous outcome for the US remains helping Ukraine liberate its territory and people, as it is the only path to a durable peace, rather than a temporary respite; and then helping Ukraine rebuild, putting the largest and most powerful friendly military in Europe at the forefront of NATO’s defense. Outcomes that fall short of that are costlier and riskier. -      Putting Ukraine on the path to victory requires more capabilities but also different approaches, including: 1.    Helping Ukraine restore its own ability to maneuver on the battlefield, after it stabilizes the lines.  2.    Denying Russia’s sanctuaries. Russia is not entitled to sanctuaries when it is trying to erase a nation and should not have immunity from attack on the Russian rear with Western or Ukrainian weapons. 3.    Thinking beyond standard force ratios and focusing on asymmetries. Ukraine’s effort in the Black Sea is a quintessential example of an effort producing outsized effects across multiple domains. The US needs to amplify this effort – given its potential to have an even larger effect, including on the ground war. 4.    Surging Western capabilities. Figuring out how to creatively allocate existing Western military assets while gradually adding new capability is important, but it is not the main problem we need to solve. The US should lead a global coalition of partners – both in Europe and Asia – to dramatically increase the overall stock of capabilities that matter in Ukraine and which are also likely to matter to US efforts to deter and fight future wars. 5. Regaining decision advantage. Decision-making speed has been a critical factor in this war. The key successes achieved by Ukraine and its partners have resulted from strategic clarity. Lost opportunities have resulted from the West’s failure to connect ground truths to our interests quickly enough to act. The US should plan to proactively resource multiple Ukraine’s campaigns, while also improving knowledge sharing with Ukraine and partners, including by increasing physical presence in Ukraine to connect the ground truth to our decisions faster. https://lnkd.in/evKRSUJH
