🌟 Reflecting on an intuitive morning with the Institute of Directors! 🌟 This morning's IoD event, "Productivity Power-Up: Jersey and Guernsey Navigating Challenges for Business Success," was a testament to the power of collaboration and shared knowledge. It brought together business leaders from both islands to tackle the ever-important topic of productivity enhancement. In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, the pursuit of increased productivity is paramount. Through a hybrid format, attendees had the opportunity to network face-to-face before diving into a thought-provoking panel discussion. Our speakers, Rory Inglis, Lindsey Hart, Paul Murphy and Dan Hare provided invaluable insights and actionable strategies. From crafting inspiring work environments to embracing a mindset of continuous improvement, their expertise illuminated the path toward enhanced productivity and business success. The main takeaways for me were: 1. The impact of the physical environment on business productivity was particularly enlightening. 2. Three primary areas stood out: People, Processes, and Technology, with a notable emphasis on their order that they should be addressed. 3. Don’t underestimate the power of simple solutions; they can often yield the most significant results. I extend my gratitude to the hosts Glen Tonks and Natasha Egre, the organisers along with IoD Guernsey Branch & IoD Jersey, the sponsors, and speakers for orchestrating such a dynamic and engaging event. Special thanks to Nigel Pascoe & Skipton International for providing the breakfast, and to C5 Alliance for their technical support and the venue. It was very motivating to witness the collaborative spirit between Guernsey and Jersey, united in our pursuit of economic prosperity. Let's continue to harness this momentum and drive positive change in our respective business communities. #IoD #Productivity #BusinessSuccess #Collaboration #Networking

"Quis custodias ipsos custodes" - I love this interview with Rory Sutherland where he shines a very clear light on the lack of productivity among those that worry all the time about measuring the productivity of others. I recall a situation in a large corporation where a C-Suite level leader got fed up with everyone sending out Emails to everyone, so his response was to send an Email to everyone asking them to stop doing that! A typical failure of leaderships is to expect others to solve organizational issues just because they mandate it, instead of doing the work of looking for strategic, structural solutions and leading in applying them. Leaders continuously mandate efficiency, productivity, teamwork among many other strategic imperatives, and expect employees to address them by sheer force of their will and in spite of the many contradictory policies and procedures that usually exist. And on top of that they themselves don't lead by example. A typical such situation happened at an other organization that set in place clear guidelines for the effective and efficient operation of meetings. Everyone was trained on their application and expected to comply, except for top management that kept managing meetings any way they saw fit! A fundamental value of leadership is to do the work of setting in place the necessary frameworks and tools to integrate key activities for efficiency, making sure everyone is equipped with them, then setting the example by applying them daily. https://lnkd.in/getdcpdc
