The 3 stages for 'team rehab' and helping your team rise up from a slump: 1/ Air it out: Teams that were burned in the past or that have suffered from previous failed attempts to change things won't just get better because you performed an amazing speech a la Ted Lasso. Talk about things that haven't worked out in the past and let everyone speak, so we all know what's ahead of us and start with a foundation of candor. 2/ Decide on changes: Clearly, repeating what you've been trying won't work. Sit together to articulate the wanted mode of operation for the team. Decide on the right culture. Don't over-promise: these should be a stretch, but not to the point no one finds it is possible. (I've seen teams vowing to never again allow a sprint to be interrupted. They've lost before even starting) 3/ Start turning the flywheel: Based on the agreed changes, begin with the low hanging fruit and start picking up speed. Seize every opportunity to show the decided changes in culture in action. When someone inevitably relapses to the 'old ways' talk about it, don't shrug it off. I've seen this simple (yet not easy) protocol help teams recover and become great.

Here are key elements of being a great team... #Collaboration - We work together to solve problems, not in isolation. We share ideas and expertise. We make it easy to contribute to others’ efforts, and to ask for help. Various teams (CSMs, Support, Programs, etc.) share information and processes in an effort to optimize outcomes and customer experience. #Transparency - We are open about why we do things. We are honest about our thoughts and feelings. We give kudos and constructive criticism generously. We ask tough questions and provide real answers. We thrive on proactively providing and seeking out insightful and constructive feedback. #Ownership - Individuals step up to solve problems and make things happen. They lead without being asked, or tasked, to do so. They define strategies, gain consensus, marshal resources, and deliver.
