By moving production for OTC drugs from the UK and Mexico to the US, Reckitt Benckiser will cut response time to non-seasonal demand volatility in the US by four weeks. It is also increasing agility by configuring plants, of which there are 6 others in the US, so that several of them can make various products. Tariffs may be top of mind right now but the drivers for big investments such as these are longer term and on the back of ongoing global supply chain disruptions. Justin Kistler, of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville noted that many companies are finding that they “don’t want to have too many eggs in one basket". Adding a production facility closer to customers “may cost a little bit more in the short term, but it just gives the ability to be a lot more flexible and agile” Other companies on similar paths include: - Newell Brands has moved production of various products to the U.S. and Mexico from China. - Mattel has restructured its supply chain to make some high-demand items in Mexico, close to U.S. customers. - GE Appliances has moved more manufacturing to the U.S. from Asia. #supplychain #supplychainmanagement #supplychainrisk #supplychainresilience

💊Chemist Warehouse &Sigma Healthcare Merge: ACCC Gives Green Light🚦 Australia's pharmacy sector is set for a major shake-up as the ACCC approves the merger between Chemist Warehouse and Sigma Healthcare, creating a multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical giant. The deal will result in a combined entity with around 950 stores, representing about 16% of the total pharmacies in Australia. Key points: •The merger is now valued at $28.3 billion, up from the initial estimate of $8.8 billion. •Sigma agreed to let suppliers exit contracts without penalty and maintain its PBS supply agreement for five years. •The ACCC believes the merger won't substantially lessen competition due to court-enforceable undertakings and the presence of competing wholesalers. •The deal is expected to be finalized by mid-2025, pending approval from shareholders and the Federal Court. While some concerns about reduced competition remain, the ACCC is confident that the merger, with its imposed conditions, will not harm consumers or the broader pharmacy sector. Reckitt’s new manufacturing plant is an example of the kinds of investments companies across industries are making as they attempt to brace their #supplychains against the ocean-shipping snarls, factory shutdowns and parts shortages that have led to too little or too much product. This strategic, #onshoring investment will build resiliency and agility in their supply chain and further drives the mission to create a healthier world by increasing access to important medicines. #Japan #drugstore market is highly fragmented, with a diverse array of players vying for consumer attention and market share. Established domestic chains like Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Tsuruha Holdings, and Welcia Holdings dominate the market, with global players like Watsons intensifying competition. Industries such as #logistics, #manufacturing, #retail, #pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) are leading the adoption of #supplychain control towers. Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) were among the earliest adopters, initially focused on gaining #supplychainvisibility and control over transport operations. These industries have since expanded their use of SCCTs as their operations became more digitized. For retail and pharmaceutical companies, investment has been driven by the need to comply with #trackandtrace regulations, reduce lead times, and optimize inbound transport to maintain stock availability and competitive pricing. Continued investment in SCCTs is expected, as these industries look to improve supply chain efficiency. Looking ahead, industries such as #automotive and high-tech products are expected to see significant growth in SCCT adoption through 2030, as they address supply chain challenges and aim to improve service supply chains. ABI Research’s revenue forecasts for SCCTs is summarized below

Should mention I was quoted in the AFR's front page lead on Friday, being positive about the competitive benefits for the whole retail pharmacy and pharmacy wholesale sectors, of the proposed Chemist Warehouse-Sigma merger. It's a sector that needs desperately disruption to improve price and service competition. Hopefully the ACCC looks at the deal in the context of the deliberate suppression, by government policy, of competition right across the retail pharmacy and pharmaceutical wholesale sectors - starting with the Guild-Government Agreements since 1990. https://lnkd.in/ggAJ7rx3
