How is LV-D3-EOS-08 mission linked to the Gaganyaan mission? The third payload on the satellite is the SiC UV Dosimeter, monitors UV irradiance at the viewport of the Crew Module in the Gaganyaan Mission and serves as a high-dose alarm sensor for gamma radiation. The Gaganyaan mission is India’s maiden bid to undertake a human space flight mission to lower Earth orbit.

Yesterday, the HERA space mission was successfully launched to study how effectively mankind can deflect an asteroid by direct impact. Less known is the fact that this mission benefits from Romanian contributions. Among other things, the visual navigation system that targets the asteroid from a distance of 5 million kilometers and the radio antennas were developed in Romania. The HERA mission will reach the asteroid in 2026, four years after it was hit by an instrument launched from Earth as part of the DART mission to measure the actual impact of the collision. ☄️ #HeraMission: And so, a two-year journey begins…  The liftoff of ESA’s Hera mission for planetary defence was only the start… Its launch will be followed by a two-year cruise to the Didymos binary asteroid system. Next will come a sequence of deep space manoeuvres, including a swingby of Mars to acquire extra velocity to aid the rendezvous with Didymos.  So, get ready and mark your calendar now:  🔶 October 2024: Initial deep-space manoeuvre to fine-tune the spacecraft’s trajectory.   🔶 March 2025: Mars flyby to gain extra velocity.   🔶 February 2026: Second deep-space manoeuvre to bring Hera on course to the Didymos system. 🔶 October 2026: “Impulsive rendez-vous” to bring Hera into the vicinity of the asteroid system for orbit insertion.  Learn more about Hera from the perspective of mission control 👉 https://lnkd.in/d-tESdCV

Oct 29, 2024 One year after a successful launch on Oct. 13, 2023, team members on the Psyche mission to the metal-rich asteroid of the same name reflect on launch day, discuss mission operations and accomplishments since launch, and look forward to upcoming milestones, including a flyby of Mars in May 2026. Whether the Psyche asteroid is the partial core of a planetesimal (a building block of the rocky planets in our solar system) or primordial material that never melted, scientists expect the mission to help answer fundamental questions about Earth’s own metal core and the formation of our solar system. The spacecraft will begin orbiting the asteroid Psyche in 2029. Riding along with the spacecraft is the Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) technology demonstration, which has been transmitting data at the highest rate ever achieved from deep space beyond the Moon.
