Who am I and what do I do? I'll cure Cato Koran took a winner. A quorum of Carter TV. I had the great privilege of being the executive director for the Community Foundations of Arterial New Zealand. It's a network of 18 regional community foundations throughout New Zealand from Southland and the South. All out the Fungai in the north. Yeah. I mean, the model of a Community Foundation have perhaps touched on that briefly, is that they they may receive a request or an endowment or even living giving or trust transfer. From a from a community group or from a donor and the Community Foundation would hold those funds and invest those in perpetuity and grow their fund, grow that Kitty Portia forever. And then each year granted distribution from that growth of that fund through to the community. We currently have $260 million already funds managed and been granted to the community each year, but we have already have a billion dollar bequest pipeline that's been secured if you like and that's the generosity of. If you take Kiwis and, and, and it's not always millions, sometimes it's, it's smaller gifts of, of a few $1000, but it, the size of the gift doesn't matter. It's the spirit of the gift of wanting to give back to New Zealand and, and make a difference that they're really makes a difference in community. I'm Lynn Numbers and I'm the general manager of the Christchurch Foundation. So the Christchurch Foundation was set up back in 2016 and registered as a charity in 2017. And that happened in the wake of the. Earthquakes and the rebuilding, the starting to rebuild the city and it was realized that there needed to be a more strategic approach towards philanthropy in the region. So the Christchurch Foundation was born. So community foundations are very much about place based giving. So you kill giving it in the place where you live and the love and that you might want to support as part of your legacy. A conversation costs you nothing and come and have a conversation with us because. We can talk to you about the different ways there are to give, whether it be financial or volunteering, and also understanding that what you hear about philanthropy is always the the big dollar and and that isn't really what philanthropy is all about. It's for the love of humanity as it's. Direct translation and really anybody can give and it's just a case of finding that point that works for you and we can help you to do that. Giving is contagious. You can give a little, you can give a lot. You can give now, you can give later. You can give when you're young, you can give when you're old. You can give local, you can give national. The main thing is giving us contagious. Now's the time to start giving.

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to philanthropy. Your values naturally feed into your philanthropic behaviours, and this looks different from one person to the next. Whatever your philanthropic values, it’s important to have a personal connection to the people who are actually delivering the project. Philanthropy is, to a great extent, a people project. When you support a project, you’re going to end up spending a significant amount of time with those people. And you need to work effectively. You want to know that you’re going to enjoy spending time with them and work together efficiently and productively. #PermissionToFail #STEM #conservation #ECD #philanthropy
