1. Man #Management Tonic – “Appreciating the Smaller Efforts” Recently I watched a talk show “KUTTI Stories with Ash” hosted by #Ravichandran #Ashwin conducted with #Gautam #Gambhir. Gambhir in his own style mentioned many points on #leadership as the mentor of KKR ,but the one which struck a chord with me and is also something we do miss while carrying our leadership flag is “Appreciating the smaller Efforts.” In explaining the same he highlighted that sometimes in IPL a 10 ball 20 Runs cameo doesn’t get the right amount of praise as a swashbuckling century. At the same time a wicket on time might not get you the man of the match award as 5 wickets in an innings. Similarly, I have noticed while working as a professional, the Efforts are only appreciated if it results in Bigger Changes (Positively only) . The Hero is always worshipped whereas the sidekicks get ignored. The member of the team who has made a menial contribution which has contributed to the end goal achievement gets hidden in the back-end corner. This needs to be brought to the attention that even a non-monetary pat on the back or appreciation in front of the team for the contribution does it for the individual who feels appreciated and is much more willing to give back to the success of the team. As a leader it is very important to bring to light these achievements openly. This not only motivates the individuals but also generates a sense of pride in working as a team. When we talk of the Animal spirit and hunting in the pack kind of an attitude it all starts from the kernel of appreciating the small efforts. So let’s start appreciating small wins and celebrate Key contributions!!!!

I’ve shared a few business lessons via fishing, but today I’m gonna share a fishing lesson via business. As many of yall know my son Hayes fishes competitively on the Junior Circuit. He’s had some great success there and grown much since he started back in 3rd grade. Wins, losses, and even some bad losses. Learning much each time win or lose. Over the last 20 years at #Mckesson I’ve found that the best results often come from assembling the talent, painting the objective, and then stepping back so the team can create their own solutions. This year I took that approach with this fishing team. The objective is to return to the national championship. The plan however is now completely up to them. They talk all week, devise their strategy, and then Friday night inform me where I need to take them. The results so far? Stop 1- 🏆First Place Stop 2- 🏆Second Place They’re rolling. Don’t feel like you need to be the boss just to be the boss. Often times your greatest contribution as a leader is assembling the right team and then getting out of the way. *all fish safely released.
