🚀 New Research Spotlight! 🚀 A groundbreaking study featuring Chipmetrics' innovative PillarHall lateral high aspect ratio (LHAR) test structures has been published in the journal Applied Surface Science. This research, led by a team of scientists including Dr. Jennifer S. Emara, Dr. Alireza M. Kia, and Sascha Bönhardt from the Fraunhofer IPMS - CNT, with contributions from Clemens Mart, Kati Kühnel, Nora Haufe, and Dr.Riikka Puurunen, explores the deposition and characterization of lanthanum-doped hafnium oxide thin films using atomic layer deposition (ALD). 💡 Key findings from the study highlight how PillarHall LHAR test structures enhance the analysis of thin film uniformity and composition. Employing techniques like X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, the team achieved detailed insights into the material properties essential for advancing micro- and opto-electronic devices. This research not only underscores the potential of lanthanum-doped hafnium oxide in ferroelectric applications but also demonstrates the capability of our LHAR structures to support complex material characterizations that push the boundaries of current technology. 🚀 Excited to announce the publication of our latest research paper named "Persistent polarization effects and memory properties in ionic-liquid gated InAs nanowire transistors" by Valeria D. et al., co-authored by Filippo Giubileo, Ofelia Durante, and Antonio Di Bartolomeo, PhD. 🔬 Our study dives into the iontronics, leveraging mobile ions within electrolytes to fine-tune the electronic properties of materials and devices' electrical response. We engineered ionic liquid gated InAs nanowire-based field effect transistors and employed a set-and-freeze dual gate device operation to explore various ionic gate regimes at 150 K. Key findings include: 1. 📈 Demonstration of the persistent polarization effect on nanowire properties, enabling new functionalities; 2. 🔧 Fine-tuning of nanowire properties, impacting transistor threshold voltage, hysteresis, on/off ratio, and current retention times; 3. 💾 Successful memory operations of nanowire field effect transistors. This research provides valuable insights into the interaction between electrolytes and semiconducting nanostructures, shedding light on the potential of nanodevice iontronics for future advancements and applications in nanodevice technology ✨. Presenting key insights into fundamentals of plasmonics at GDR - Plasmonics, Paris. Our research explores how metallic nanoparticles, organized in arrays, form surface lattice resonances (SLRs) influenced by inter-particle distances. Unlike localized surface plasmons (LSPs), SLRs offer narrower bandwidths and stronger electric field enhancements, crucial for optical device efficiency. Key findings focus on the role of grazing diffracted orders, which significantly impact SLR properties by enabling long-range nanoparticle interactions. Finite Difference Time Domain simulations on gold disk arrays show that SLR behavior strongly depends on the grating constant and inter-particle spacing along the incident polarization. Larger spacing reduces SLR red-shift, offering critical insights for optimizing photonic and optoelectronic devices.

QuantumFrontiers Success Stories #️⃣ 7️⃣ TrapFab, Structured Light and Photonic Integrated Modules In the past years researchers of QuantumFrontiers made significant advances in controlling structured, twisted, and non-classical light. This progress enables the fabrication of photonic integrated circuits using photonic-plasmonic systems, nanoscale light sources, and structured light modes for high-precision atomic spectroscopy, advancing quantum metrology. A notable achievement is the development of Structured Micro Illumination Light Engine (SMILE) based on gallium nitride technology, using indium gallium nitride/gallium nitride microLEDs to emit partially coherent light, essential for chip-based microscopes in life sciences metrology. For blue/UV photonic integrated circuits, aluminum nitride is ideal due to its large electro-optical coefficient. We have contributed significantly to high-quality fabrication. On the crucial topic of integrating quantum systems, QuantumFrontiers has established the inter-institutional initiative “TrapFab”, which has demonstrated a scalable multilayer ion-trap chip technology for quantum processors and develops UV/blue optical waveguide technology and advanced atom chips. Evatec’s Principal Scientist, Dr. Stephan Waldner, will present a poster on the design, manufacturing, and characterization of multilayer mirrors based on magnetron sputtered quantized nanolaminates at the #SPIE Laser Damage Conference in San Ramon, US, on October 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM.      Dr. Waldner will compare mirrors with and without quantized nanolaminates (QNL) designed for the wavelength of 1030nm. The designs are either standard quarter wave stacks or optimized to reduce the electric field in the higher index layers. The SiO2-Ta2O5 QNL and standard high-low materials (Ta2O5 and SiO2) are deposited on a Evatec CLUSTERLINE® 200 BPM magnetron sputter tool. 🚨 New Publication Alert! 🚨 🎉 Happy to share our latest work published in Advanced Science, Wiley: "Cross-Scale Decoupling Kinetic Processes in Lithium-Ion Batteries Using the Multi-Dimensional Distribution of Relaxation Time" 🔑 Key Contributions: We developed a hierarchical analytical framework to non-destructively resolve and diagnose degradation mechanisms in #low #interfacial #impedance lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in the #automotive #industry.
