I used to think only huge, innovative, and impactful ideas could turn into a $35M business. But, I was wrong. A few years ago, I was watching Blueland on Shark Tank  Wayyy back in 2019. I remember thinking, What’s so ‘disruptive’ about cleaning products?  To me, it didn’t seem like the kind of game-changing innovation that would take off. Fast forward to today, the actual thought behind all this dawned on me when I noticed that we use Blueland products in our own house. What I once dismissed as ordinary was actually solving a real problem in an extraordinary way: -Refillable -Eco-friendly -Cutting down plastic waste.  I’ve realized, it’s often the smallest ideas that give us the most value and money in return. Sarah Paiji Yoo and John A. Mascari presented a very common product idea.  But now their company is worth $35 million. It made me reflect on my own journey with UVset. When I developed the automatic door-handle sanitizer, it wasn’t some massive invention. But it solved a focused, everyday problem: hygiene in public spaces. Like Blueland, the power of UVset comes from targeting a specific issue, something small but incredibly impactful. Right now, UVSET is installed in over 10 healthcare institutes across Texas. It’s funny how we sometimes overlook the most effective solutions when they aren’t loud or disruptive. But often, the biggest impact comes from the smallest, most thoughtful innovations. Shoutout to Sophie Egan, who consistently shares valuable insights on how small, everyday actions can contribute to a more sustainable future. Jolijn Zwart-van Kessel, Innovation Lead Circular Agrifood Foodvalley NL, opened this hub with insights from the visions and messages presented from the publication Circular Agrifood & biomass, released in 2023*. We brought together various stakeholders in the transition process towards a circular agrifood economy sharing their insights: - Imke de Boer, Professor at the Wageningen University & Research: What is the Agrifood system of the future? - Marten Van den Berg, Director-General Ministry of Agriculture: How do you steer towards a new system? - Prof Dr Jeroen Hugenholtz, Co-founder & CTO at No Palm Ingredients: Scaling up difficulties in a market that does not yet exist. - Derk Van Manen, Manager of Quality Nutrition & Research at Duynie Followed by an in-depth panel discussion to enrich the future vision of Upcycled food with a bridge to daily practice.
