#ProfessionalDevelopment Green Building Initiative (GBI), Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), BOMA International #GGP - #GPCP - #fitwell , #LEEDAPNC #LEEDAPOM #WELLAP, #EnergySustainabilityResilienceCommittee Working within #Sustainability, there are tons of acronyms, cryptic language, standards, meetings, continuing education requirements, published guidance and most importantly optimism. Understanding the what and how to report requires an immense amount of research, fortunately the information is transparently reported publicly. Going through any credentialing process requires time and effort, keeping those hard earned credentials even more time. In my professional development, I have been fortunate to have great mentorship along the way. The first professional organization that I was involved with was BOMA Nevada. I learned how to participate in Board meetings and built incredible relationships that last until this day. Stephen Stoney, Susan Philipp, Jeff Eloi, RPA, FMA, SMA and others brought me in as a founding member, I joined local committees and went to a National Conference. To this day, I participate on the National Energy, Sustainability and Resilience Committee and attended a conference recently with a BOMA Sustainability Scholarship. This involvement with Buildings continued as I became a member/Board Member/ then President of the USGBC Nevada Chapter. In order to lead, I became an expert in existing buildings. It is tough to tell people that credentials are important when you don't have any. After several years, I became an instructor and #LEEDFaculty member, teaching is a passion of mine. With the Green Building Initiative the path was getting my credentials as another Green Building option for clients and then I participated on #Standards Committees. All of this #education helps in my current role and most importantly provides value for my clients. I am fortunate to be able to work on impactful issues to save my clients money, to increase their value, and to help the communities and planet along the way. I am also excited that sometimes the work I do is impactful in a way to help the continued development and improvement of the green building industry. I was recently notified that our Existing Building Committee work was approved by ANSI - American National Standards Institute Attached is the draft. This was a long and fulfilling process, thanks LL "Buddy" Humphries, PE and Emily Marx, CAE for allowing me to be involved. #Education #Sustainability #Standards

New expert article on the EUROPARC Website: Management Effectiveness Evaluation in Finland. To reach (global) goals like 30x30, it is of increasing importance that #ProtectedAreas are effectively managed. 👉 In 2004, Finland was the first country in the world to commission an independent review of the management effectiveness of the whole Protected Area system. In 2023, our member Metsähallitus repeated the process. Amongst the external Evaluation Team, which consisted of experts from diverse backgrounds, was also our president Michael Hošek. Learn more about the Finnish example of Protected Areas Management Effectiveness assessment, in our new expert article written by Matti Tapaninen! https://lnkd.in/ee9jAe5C #ProtectedAreas #ManagementEffectiveness #PAME

Just finished an online course on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from SIGMAEARTH! Environmental Impact Assessment is a systematic approach to identifying, predicting, and evaluating the change an action or a project will bring about in the environment. A person or organization usually carries out an EIA before making a major decision. This process requires considering a broad definition of environment. Social, cultural, and health effects form an integral part of EIA. This course is essential for anyone passionate about environmental sustainability, urban planning, or regulatory compliance. Whether you’re a student, professional, or enthusiast, acquiring expertise in EIA is crucial for contributing to responsible decision-making and sustainable development.
