Croatia is set to receive €585.1 million in the form of grants and loans. This initiative secures the way for transformative projects and sustainable growth, with a goal to accelerate investments and reforms outlined in the REPowerEU chapter for Croatia. A substantial boost of €585.1 million, comprising grants and loans, is set to take Croatia into a new chapter of transformative projects and sustainable growth. This initiative is focused on expediting investments and implementing reforms outlined in Croatia's dedicated REPowerEU chapter. 🌍 On a broader EU scale, these pre-financing allocations represent a stride toward realizing the goals of the REPowerEU plan. The focus is on elevating energy efficiency, fostering clean energy production, and diversifying energy sources. This strategic move aims to secure Europe's independence from Russian fossil fuels in the aftermath of the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia. In light of President Boric's recent visit to the UAE on July 29, 2024, we had the privilege of interviewing Nicolás Grau, Chile’s Minister of Economy, Development, and Tourism. Our conversation covered a variety of vital topics, highlighting the strengthening relationship between Chile and the UAE. Minister Grau emphasized the significance of collaboration in renewable energy, green technologies, and sustainable development. He provided valuable insights into Chile's strategic initiatives, including the national lithium strategy and the crucial role of green hydrogen in driving economic growth while tackling climate change. We also discussed the increasing Emirati investments in Chile, particularly through DP World in the ports of Lirquén and San Antonio, along with initiatives in the food industry. The project of a tunnel between Morocco and Spain is a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening economic and cultural ties between Africa and Europe 🇲🇦 🇪🇸 🌍 Spanning 38.7 km, with 27.8 km underwater, this tunnel will reach depths of 300 to 400 meters. Morocco-France Partnership: A New Era in Transport and Renewable Energy 🇲🇦🇫🇷🤝 France's clear stance on the Sahara issue has strengthened its ties with Morocco, where the matter is seen as integral to national identity. President Macron's speech to the Moroccan Parliament was a key moment in his visit, marking the start of a renewed partnership. France reaffirmed its commitment to Morocco's security, with 22 agreements signed across sectors such as energy, transportation, research, civil security, and culture, reflecting a shared ambition to elevate the partnership in the years ahead. Strengthening of railway and aerospace infrastructure. The renewed Morocco-France cooperation focuses on transportation and renewable energy. Key agreements include partnerships with Groupe ONCF , Alstom , and Safran to enhance Morocco's railway and aerospace sectors, and collaborations with OCP Group, ENGIE Solutions France , AFD - Agence Française de Développement , and TotalEnergies to advance decarbonization, green hydrogen, and sustainable energy goals. Cooperation in education, culture, and research. Morocco and France are focusing on education and research through a 2024-2026 cooperation agreement, the establishment of a Franco-Moroccan Research Center (CRFM) to foster innovation, and a framework agreement to support the creative industries, including digital culture and video games, aimed at creating opportunities for youth and attracting talent. Projects in agriculture, water management, and environmental protection. Water security is a critical issue for Morocco, which is facing significant water stress; a memorandum of understanding in the water sector has been signed along with a declaration of intent to protect natural spaces, enhancing environmental resilience and promoting sustainable agriculture. Towards a new vision for human development and shared prosperity. The Royal Cabinet noted that the state visit signifies a turning point in Franco-Moroccan relations, emphasizing shared goals of human development and sustainability, while an investment accelerator aims to enhance trade and attract direct investments, with French companies like CMA CGM partnering with the strategic Tanger Med Port Authority to establish Morocco as a key logistics hub between Europe and Africa. This series of agreements comes after years of tensions over the Moroccan Sahara and visa reductions. Amplifying African projects to meet regional and global goals, setting universal standards, and creating efficient regulations pose significant challenges. Perspectives is currently developing an e-mobility carbon markets programme in Kenya and Rwanda, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Perspectives Climate Group.
