This is crucial to our prosperity and our role in the world.″ - Jacques Delors The dream of this visionary architect of the united Europe we know today will be a little bigger from 1 January 2025, with the full acceptance of Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen Area. In her insightful interview for CEE Legal Matters, our partner Ana Novaković Stipaničev discusses dynamic activities across multiple sectors in Croatia in 2024, highlighting M&A activities in retail, wholesale, pharmaceuticals, IT, construction, and hospitality. Ana also emphasizes the importance of the recently voted real estate tax law which addresses high real estate prices, the inability of regular citizens to purchase their own property, and the outcomes of short-term tourism rentals leaving properties empty most of the year. Furthermore, Ana explains how the European Court of Justice ruling in the Kolin case raised an important issue about companies from non-EU countries that regularly bid for public procurement contracts within the EU, particularly in the construction sector. #kps #CEE #CEELegalMatters
