I must admit, it seems a bit unusual to see this tradition transition from America to Europe, but it is becoming increasingly prominent in our #retail landscape as well. I came across an intriguing recent survey 📊 conducted by Germany’s retail association, #HDE Handelsverband Deutschland e.V. (HDE). 💶 Approximately 15% of respondents plan to spend money on Halloween this year, which is an increase compared to previous years. 👻 Costumes, food, decorations, and cosmetics are among the most sought-after items. 🥘 This is expected to generate over 540 million EUR in revenue for the retail sector. Luxury Drinks and Culture Convergence: I don’t know if you’re a HipHop head or just involved in Cultural Content development and distribution, but a new Cypher just dropped Featuring Nigerian Artists and a few East African Ones. I’ll just name drop here that Khaligraph Jones is a feature and can we now say that He finally certified He is the biggest Rapper in Nigeria? (Please check out the Rap Beef He had with Blaqbonez). The Cypher is a telling of the marketable element that Hip Hop has become. If you were on IG the last three weeks then you know about the Kendrick and Drake beef that had a whole catalogue of music dropped in a few days. Well, guess who’s benefitting the most from that beef (Artists aside), The BET AWARDS! They had the two artists competing in the same category “Best Male Hiphop Artist”, and Kendrick took it home, but no shade thrown to @Champagnepapi (Drake’s IG Track), He got quite a lot of marketing since. With all this attention up in the air, it follows that Luxury brands would want to ride on this wave of capitalism hingeing on Culture and it’s diversified expression – particularly music and outfits. This is all evident in the Hennessy Cypher where the Set styling and Artist Clothing represents the Casual Luxury LVMH are scoring and marketing to the broader culture. Whereas there is retention to segregate certain exclusives to the Luxury brand, there is an upcoming crop of consumers who are worth reaching out to. Party goers. Sneaker heads. Those in quasi-formal work setups. Hiphop fans. Economies with huge fanbases. Etc. Just splendid what a collaboration of this sort can produce when the Marketing / Branding Game is this far in. Finally, this Cypher had me thinking about an interview I came across featuring 50 cent and his line of spirits. Apart from ‘In da club’ and a few movie features, I had no idea fifty had a line of businesses that he ran almost like he does his music, featuring club appearances that market his line of Party alcoholic beverages. But the interview revealed his Business acumen and hints at the pull up of celebrity made lifestyle beverages across the Board – Gran Coramino by Kevin Hart (Movies and Stand up Comedy). Think Ciroc and the infamous Diddy. Think Corona and Don’s character in the Fast n Furious Franchise. Think Kendall Jenner and 818 tequilla. And Now Henny is putting up its tag on these Afrobeats turning the world upside down. It's strategic, the Capitalization of African Artistry: Burna Boy, Tems, Wizkid, Shatta wale, Tyla... Seems the All-seeing Marketing Eye has turned its sights to our continent. They will put a gold label on our artistry soon, we have the opportunity to make it premium and own our heritage before they are appropriated for Capital Expenditure. The National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics estimate that the average consumer will spend $103.63 on costumes, candy, and other items for Halloween in 2024, down from $108.24 last year. Halloween spending is expected to total $11.6 billion this year, down from a record $12.2 billion in 2023. Spending on costumes, decorations, and candy is expected to reach $3.8 billion, $3.8 billion, and $3.5 billion, respectively.

ICYMI: Both rue21 and Sam Ash Music are going to be closing all of their stores, as they both announced last Friday. This is rue21's third chapter 11 bankruptcy, but the first to include the closure of all 540 stores.
