Panto season is just around the corner (oh yes it is!) and Lighthouse is delighted to welcome back Trethowans as an official sponsor of this year’s dream of a pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. The south coast law firm, which has offices in Poole and Bournemouth as well as Southampton, Salisbury and Winchester, was keen to cast a spell and have their name associated with one of the biggest shows of the year at Lighthouse. Written and directed by CBeebies star Chris Jarvis, who will also appear as Dame Nanny Nutkins, Sleeping Beauty is produced by the same in-house team that has delivered award-winning hit pantomimes in recent years including last year’s Aladdin, as well as Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk, with production designer James Smith, choreographer Daniel Donaldson Todd and music director Adam Tuffrey. EastEnders and Grange Hill star Todd Carty will play King Tucker, West End talent Isabella Kibble is Sleeping Beauty and Melaina Pecorini is Fairy Sunbeam, with Sarah-Lousie Young as Carabosse. “Following the success of last year’s panto, we are thrilled to support Lighthouse once again, this year in their magical production of Sleeping Beauty,” says Mike Watson, Managing Partner at Trethowans. “Being just a stone’s throw away from such a vibrant venue, it’s wonderful to see how they continue to offer creative and captivating experiences for theatre-goers. We look forward to being part of this year’s production.” Sleeping Beauty opens on Thursday 12 December and runs until Sunday 5 January. 🎟️ Tickets are on sale now at www.lighthousepoole.co.uk #LighthousePoole #DifferentEveryDay #LovePoole #LoveDorset #LoveLighthouse #Pantomime #SleepingBeauty #Trethowans #Partnership #PartnershipAnnoucement

Family-friendly or PG-18? The most frequently asked question about our performances concerns age restrictions. Since we refuse to be clear about it, we get that you will keep on asking. A thing about Swedes is that we are rooted in a tradition of children’s theatre that believes in the competent child. Children’s entertainment is allowed to be challenging, political, and scary. Children can handle it – they handle the challenging, political and scary parts of life every day. Contemporary circus might come off as artsy and challenging to understand, but it IS circus. The beautiful thing about our art form is that we can work with complex themes and messaging, but a world-class somersault will always impress even those uninterested in the layers of the performance. Adult or child – if you can sit still for the length of the performance, our “adult” shows are for you.

Usher is a very wise man. He understood that showcasing someone else's gifts/talents takes Absolutely nothing from you. I wish more people realized this truth. He had the Super Bowl stage and could have kept it all to himself. This man shared it with five other artists! Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Ludacris, Lil Jon and Jermaine Dupree... All while shining a positive light on his hometown the "A". We have got to do better... #Justthinkingoutloud #sharingiscaring

Recently, we’ve seen a significant wave of designer changes among top luxury fashion houses. Could this be a signal of declining sales or deeper market challenges? Interesting to consider whether these shifts are strategic responses to consumer demands, or perhaps a reflection of the changing dynamics within the luxury industry. What are your thoughts on the impact of these transitions? #luxuryfashion #LeadershipChanges #ConsumerTrends #FashionIndustry #BusinessStrategy

It deeply moves me to witness the storm of abuse faced by Francesca Amewudah-Rivers for her portrayal in "Romeo and Juliet." This event underscores the persistent hurdles encountered by Black artists, especially black women, in our industry. Over 800 Black actors have penned an open letter, condemning theatre companies, broadcasters, producers, and streamers for their insufficient support. The letter poignantly notes that victims are often burdened with reporting abuse while promoting the very show causing them distress. A similar pattern is seen in education where students are expected to report and sometimes educate staff about racism to receive the necessary assistance. The letter concludes with a powerful message for Francesca and all Black female performers enduring such abuse: “We see you. We recognize not only your art but also the extra challenges you encounter due to misogynoir. We eagerly anticipate your performances.” In July, BAMEed Wales planning a unique event in West Wales inviting visionaries from across the UK. Our aim is to nurture support, acknowledge resilience, and strategize towards establishing an inclusive and supportive environment in education. This event will feature workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions with leaders dedicated to combating racism and fostering diversity. Let's unite with Francesca and all Black female performers. Together we can forge a future where everyone thrives without fear of abuse or discrimination. Don't miss this opportunity — be part of this transformation. Sign up today for AREfest 2024 and help us effect change. #StandWithFrancesca #AREfest2024 https://lnkd.in/ek9RRvpP

Meet the cast of Witness for the Prosecution! We asked David Nackman some questions about the show: Tell us a little bit about your character. Mr. Myers (he, like many of the characters, is not granted a last name) is the prosecuting attorney in the trial at the center of the play. He is, according to his arch rival Sir Wilfred Robarts (two names and a title, damn him), quite good at his job, and pursues the case against the suspect Leonard Vole like an outwardly genteel but ravenous dog with a juicy bone. What are some of the unique challenges that you've encountered during rehearsals? The courtroom scenes of the trial itself (the only place my character appears) present a delightful challenge. In their authentic representation of 1950s English legal process, they require us barristers to perform within behavioral constraints that are both strict, and true to the rules and customs of the time and place. At the same time, the script leads us actors through all kinds of emotional twists and turns. Finding the balance between those two forces is a fascinating and delicate dance, to which I’m learning new steps at every rehearsal. Agatha Christie is known as the "Queen of Crime" due to her suspenseful, intricately plotted mysteries. Without giving away any spoilers, what were your thoughts as you encountered the twists and turns of this story for the first time? That it would take a better brain than mine to guess how it ends! What's something an audience member should know before they see this play? You might be tempted to think of this play as a kind of museum piece, stuck 70 years in the past and an ocean away. But you’d be wrong. The societal forces at play onstage — misogyny, class conflict, xenophobia and an imbalanced judicial system — are very much still with us. At least in Witness, we get a brilliantly satisfying ending. Witness for the Prosecution runs May 3rd-12th at the New Hazlett Theater. Here is an opportunity to bring a play focused on social housing to mainland Australia. I believe it could make a significant impact in raising awareness and continuing important conversations. This play sheds light on the challenges and the resilience of those who rely on these essential services. By bringing this production to a broader Australian audience, you can help amplify these voices and advocate for better housing solutions. If you are able to support this initiative in any way — whether through spreading the word, offering resources, or simply lending your voice — it would be very much appreciated. Social housing is a vital issue that affects so many. Help Raise the Curtain on Social Housing Awareness.
Last night the Homes Tasmania crew took ourselves off to the Theatre Royal to see The Box, a play set in social housing. It was powerful, confronting and relatable insight into the lives of a family that experience inter-generational trauma, stigma and setbacks, but also with some hope and wry humour. Given the setting, there's some commentary on lack of maintenance and impersonal experience with Housing and what it means to grow up in a social housing estate. Afterwards we were privileged to meet the cast and one of the playwrights, palawa man, Nathan Maynard who also directed the play. Mudlark Theatre (Clare Spillman) would love to take this play to the mainland and I reckon it's a must see for anyone with an interest in housing. As Nathan Maynard said, it's important that people living in social housing feel 'seen' and that their stories are told. If you are one of those people who has the capacity to help make that happen, please contact them. On a personal note - I'm delighted that in an organisation of about 200 people, about 30 staff went in their own time.
