As global regulations around vehicle emissions and fuel efficiency tighten, lubricant manufacturers are facing increased pressure to develop new products that meet these regulations while enhancing the performance and lifespan of machinery at the same time. The automotive industry is demanding lower viscosity oils which decrease engine friction and boost fuel efficiency, leading to lower carbon emissions. Engine oils that provide high performance and longer drain intervals are also gaining growing interest from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and consumers. Technology Trends in Sodium-ion Batteries and Market Penetration with Christoph Neef from Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI. A number of manufacturers have launched their first generation of sodium-ion batteries in 2023. The technologies used differ significantly and cover a wide range in cathode and anode materials and cell design. The performance characteristics are correspondingly different. Also on the application side, different scenarios are emerging for the use of SIB, whether as a hybrid concept with LIB or as a stand-alone technology for storage and mobile applications. Evonik Industries AG launched Smart Effects, a new 3,500-employee entity combining its silica and silane operations, as the German speciality chemicals maker pushes further into sustainable technologies. Im Zusammenhang mit der Wasserstofferzeugung spielt der Aspekt der Energiespeicherung eine ebenso wichtige Rolle. Es ist bekannt, dass Elektrolyseure besonders effizient arbeiten, wenn sie unter möglichst gleichmäßigen Betriebsbedingungen hinsichtlich der Energieversorgung betrieben werden - und bei der Erzeugung von Ökostrom bedeutet dies, dass die Speicherung von Energie, z.B. für die Nutzung in der Nacht, eine wichtige Rolle spielt... Gut zu sehen, dass auch dieser Aspekt in Europa auf breiter Ebene umgesetzt wird!

Content: The “Battery Atlas” once again reflects the current commitment of cell manufacturers, module and pack producers, suppliers of systems and battery active material as well as recycling companies and battery test centers. A new addition is the consideration of market participants for battery quality assurance, passive cell components and so-called “second life” applications. Key Message: The networking of companies beyond their own areas will be crucial to whether Europe can compete globally. If the different market participants succeed in establishing cooperation along the entire value chain, they can offer services as 'turnkey' solutions, jointly exploit cost advantages through economies of scale and pool financial resources for research and development.
