At Portus Data Centers, we are proud to continue our tradition of serving as a bridge between the professional world and educational institutions. Throughout 2024, we hosted students from Athénée de Luxembourg and industry days organized by Chambre des Métiers Luxembourg, and CARE Luxembourg a.s.b.l., offering students a unique opportunity to learn about the critical role data centers play in powering modern society. During their visits, students gained insights into data center design and operations, the importance of secure and reliable data infrastructure, and the far-reaching impact of this industry on daily life. A guided tour of our facility provided them with a first-hand experience of the technology and systems that form the backbone of the digital economy. These visits are part of our broader commitment to sharing expertise, mentoring students, and fostering awareness of the industrial world’s societal impact. They also reflect our partnership with CARE, through which Portus supports vital humanitarian projects. By linking educational experiences with financial contributions to global initiatives, we aim to connect technological innovation with a sense of social responsibility. We value the curiosity and enthusiasm these students bring, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with schools and organizations in 2025. Together, we strive to inspire understanding, create opportunities, and make a difference. #Education #Technology #PortusDataCenters #SocialResponsibility

🚀 Data Centres: The Backbone of the UK's Digital Economy 📊 Did you know? Data centres could contribute an additional £44 billion to the UK economy by 2035. techUK's latest report, "Foundations For The Future," dives deep into the significant impact these hubs have on our digitalised world. According to techUK, data centres currently contribute £4.7 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) annually and support 43,500 jobs across the UK. As our reliance on digital services continues to grow, data centres are set to play an even larger role. Imagine an additional 40,200 jobs being created and £9.7 billion more in tax revenue by 2035. These aren't just numbers; they're opportunities for regional and national growth, driving employment and innovation across the country. The report highlights several key policy recommendations to sustain and expand this growth. From improving access to renewable energy to accelerating planning reforms, these strategies are crucial for the future of data centres in the UK. Ensuring we have the skills pipeline to support this industry is also vital, with calls for reforms to the apprenticeship levy and more promotion of career pathways in this dynamic sector. #DataCentres #TechGrowth #DigitalEconomy

The #datacentre sector has grown exponentially in recent years. Countries such as the UK, the US, the Netherlands and Germany have been able to capitalise on the momentum of data centre development. In Spain, #Quark began operations in 2009 as virtually the only engineering company with the capacity to design the necessary facilities in the country. Since then, the evolution of the sector has been unstoppable, especially with #cloudservices completely transforming the market. Today, Spain has become a focal point for companies from all over the world who want to take advantage of the facilities needed for today's market in the country. This has enabled Quark to grow up to 20 times. 🔎 We analys the advantages that place Spain in this strategic position in this article: https://lnkd.in/dD7UevWG

⚡ "European metropolises are running out of space – this is bringing a data center boom and billions to Finland." ⚡ "There is a boom in Finland where many municipalities want a data center on their land in the hope of tax revenue and jobs." ⚡ "Will the world run out of electricity? Data centers are electricity devourers. Now they are being built at a rapid pace." ⚡ Almost every week, there is major news regarding data centers and the attractiveness of Nordic regions as companies look for suitable European locations beyond FLAPD. Very excited about the chance to speak about this booming sector at the Alma Insights annual Property Transaction Day. The seminar will focus on current issues related to property transactions and practical strategies for managing transactional risks. My presentation will specifically cover data centers as an emerging sector and investment target, with an emphasis on initial transaction documents (Datakeskukset kehittyvänä sektorina ja investointikohteena, fokuksessa alkuvaiheen transaktioasiakirjat). Link to the detailed program in the comment section below. Looking forward to see many familiar faces and lively discussions as we have had in previous years. And in case you cannot make it to the event or are otherwise interested in the topic, feel free to shoot me, Lisa Hybbinette or any of our Finnish or Swedish colleagues a DM, always happy to discuss further. #propertytransactions #datacenters #kiinteistötransaktiot #almakoulutus #juristiliitonkoulutus #lakikoulutus

🔒🌍 New project creates secure research environments for the EU The EOSC-ENTRUST project will establish a European network of Trusted Research Environments (TREs) for sensitive data, enhancing interoperability and ensuring secure data access and analysis across the continent. Supported by Horizon Europe, EOSC-ENTRUST will develop a common blueprint for federated data management, utilizing the infrastructures of EUDAT and ELIXIR. This collaboration will improve the management of sensitive data, supporting secure and innovative research environments. In Finland, project partners include CSC, Turku University of Applied Sciences, and Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). CSC coordinates the development of the reference architecture. 🤝 “CSC has many years of experience in providing secure processing environments for Finnish researchers. With the EOSC-ENTRUST project, we are strengthening the operating conditions of European environments and ensuring that Finnish researchers can continue to access national and European research data in the future. EOSC-ENTRUST is also an excellent example of how CSC promotes national objectives in Europe together with its Finnish partners,” says Ilkka Lappalainen, CSC’s Director of Sensitive Research Data Services. We’ve entered a new era of government technology with the official opening of the Global Government Technology Centre (hashtag #GGTC) in Berlin on 1 October 2024. Part of the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network, GGTC Berlin will spark a more systematic approach to GovTech development, with new methods of cross-sectoral co-ideation, co-creation, and co-learning. In a new article, Marc Reinhardt, Capgemini Executive Vice President, Public Sector Global Industry Leader, explains how the GovTech ecosystem has the potential to create a more inclusive and sustainable development opportunity in terms of public sector digital transformation across the world. Countries lagging behind – through lack of finances, technology know-how and resources, or geopolitical instability – have an opportunity to leapfrog on the back of more technically advanced nations and catch up with the transformations of their own administrations. That’s not all. He argues that this more systematic approach to sharing knowledge and co-creation will also help to resolve challenges with interoperability, whereby projects with broad-ranging regional benefit fail to deliver expected outcomes because platforms built for them in one country are not interoperable in another. It’s an exciting time for everyone involved in GovTech and, more broadly, the digital transformation of government services.
