This weekend I struggled to switch off after more local devistaing news. Only to wake up Monday with another close call in exactly the same place. Now Tuesday news of another life gone too soon! I’m part of the local suicide prevention task group from a lived perspective. Unfortunately the red tape slows things down way too much, to even feel like I’m actually helping. I’m currently feeling like the only way things will change is if I actually do something about it myself. I’m looking at ways to fund a 24 hour crisis café for St.Helens as a CIC. I’m going to need help, it’s not something I can do on my own but it’s needed. I’ve definitely not seen any government funding for mental health in a while, so the council can’t have any extra funds. It’s the only way I can see anything happing in a time scale that could help. Thankfully today I got to do a clay bird workshop for my Fly Free project. This will be a mosaic on Derbyshire hill family centre in Parr, the aim is community cohesion. Funded by St.Helens councils resettlement team. Now I’ve been saying art is the answer for years and today proved this! Some of the conversations lead to some possible answers into the recent increase in suicides in men locally. Now to see what I can do to help! This can’t go on, we need some serious changes and fast not in a couple of years. #suicideprevention #StHelens #PublicHealth #community #mentalhealth #trauma #wellbeing #art #conversations #pantry #schoolholidays #support #livedexperience

We are excited to share that JFS NEPA has been awarded a generous grant of $75,000 from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation! Over the next three years, this funding will be instrumental in enhancing the vital social services we provide to our community. By supporting the retention of skilled social workers, this grant will enable us to expand access to crucial services, particularly in areas like mental health, family support, and overall community well-being. As the demand for social workers rises, especially in the face of mental health challenges, this funding will ensure that professional counseling services remain available to those who need them most. We are deeply grateful to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation for their ongoing commitment to improving the health and quality of life in our region. This support will allow us to continue empowering individuals and families to navigate complex issues such as addiction, abuse, depression, and more—ultimately helping them lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. #JFSEPA #CommunitySupport #MentalHealth #SocialWork #NonprofitImpact #Gratitude #HealthAndWellBeing #NortheasternPA

It's that time of year again where myself, my colleagues from BPP Education Group & Mandem Meetup sleep out on the streets to raise awareness for homelessness. On the 30th November we will be sleeping out on the streets of Manchester Market Street and Wolverhampton Town Centre from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday. Over the last 12 months the statistics show that 117,450 households were in temporary accommodation as of 31st March 2024, a 12.3% increase on one year previously and the highest number on record. There are many contributing factors to why people become homeless and no longer have a home, WE ALL DESERVE A HOME RIGHT??? As we all know the cost of living crisis has hit everyone in some way, Higher bills, mortgage rates, food and so on which has had huge implications on society. We at Mandem sleep rough for 24-hours in the winter to raise awareness and take ourselves our of the daily norms and comforts we have. All the money we raise goes back into Mandem where we; 1. Support the wellbeing of our male service users 2. Provide those on the streets with essentials like clothing, sleeping bags, tents & amenities 3. Keeps everything that we offer within the Mandem completely free to all our services users. I hear the following statement year on year --- Why do you still do this. I can't get onboard with you doing this every year, you go from the warmth to the streets back to the warmth. How is that raising awareness. I'll explain why I do this year on year!.. How often do you go into your local supermarket, Greggs or pass someone on the street and ever engage with them? Do you say a hello or walk out and given them food or drink? The chances are you don't, Why is that? it's because you automatically assume they are there by their own demise when it may never be the case, and that it's not for you to help them and provide for them. Well, this thought process is part of the issue, homelessness is a problem of us all we need to be more conscious as they are people and humans just like you an I. If i can change the perspective of just one person every time we sleep out on the streets, its one less people who has to suffer, its that simple. I have set up a crowdfunder with an ambitious target and I hope you all can help us get to someway of achieving it. Any donation is appreciated, the cheapest coffee these days is around £3.30. https://lnkd.in/eFYcp6a8 Thanks for reading.

There is a misconception that homelessness is driven by substance use, mental health, and other individual-level factors. However, the truth is that the most important root causes of the homelessness crisis is the local housing market. It's Okay to Ask for Help! Asking for help is a crucial skill that provides the #support and guidance we need to overcome challenges, improve relationships, and promote overall wellbeing. It's a sign of #strength, not weakness. In 2022, in collaboration with Bundaberg Family Relationships Centre, River Nations, Family and Baby Network and Wide Bay Kids created a great local resource; The Seekers Tree. The booklet was first published as a guide to help families living in the #Bundaberg region #connect with services that could help them raise a family. Encouraging #helpseeking behaviour in parents and caregivers can have a significant impact on the health and #wellbeing of children. Parents and caregivers who are willing to ask for help and support when they need it are better equipped to provide a safe, nurturing, and stable home environment for children. This can lead to improved mental health, academic success, and overall wellbeing for children. In 2023, phase one of The Seekers Tree website was established. Resources like The Seekers Tree, created through #collaborative #partnerships, offers valuable support to the #community. Remember, no one has to do it alone. Visit www.theseekerstree.com. So, taking my own advice here and asking for help; This project is now seeking #funding for the second edition of the Seekers Tree booklets to be updated and printed and for the website to undergo phase two of development. Reach out if you would like to know more and if you may assist. #AskForHelp #ParentingSupport #TheSeekersTree #Bundaberg #Wellbeing #WelcomeToBundaberg #communitydevelopment Angela Twyford

There are many issues that can feel so big, they feel impossible to attack: affordable housing, lack of pipeline for mental health service providers, food desserts and food insecurity, and many more! I really like this suggested approach to do the next right thing: https://lnkd.in/dHJj9acN
