🌍 Implementing the Joint Assessment Tool (JAT) in Malawi! In rural areas of low-income countries, small-scale mixed farming systems are common. During crises, assessing agricultural production and livelihoods as a whole is crucial. LEGS: Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards and SEADS created the JAT for more holistic emergency assessments. This July, SEADS field-tested the JAT in Malawi alongside partners including Catholic Relief Services, Concern Worldwide, the National Agriculture Cluster (NAC), and the Ministry of Agriculture. Key insights: 🌽Impact of Participatory Approaches: JAT highlighted severe impacts of recurrent shocks on livelihoods, with declining crop and livestock production. 🤝Inclusivity: Adjustments were made to include more marginalized groups. 🗣Communication: Translating JAT into local languages is essential. The JAT is ready for use in Malawi's upcoming farming season. Our goal is to promote it for field use by NAC members and globally roll it out to complement our existing handbooks.
