𝑪𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑼𝒑𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑨𝒍𝒆𝒓𝒕 🐄 : 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 Due to popular demand from last week's cattle update, I created a short video clip highlighting the calving process of a newborn calf. After a nine-month gestation period, a cow is ready to give birth. Take some time to read about the key stages and important considerations during calving to ensure the safe delivery and health of both the cow and her calf. 🚫 Caution: Don't watch if you have phobia for watching certain animal procedures. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧?############################### Birthing, whether for animals or humans, is a profoundly challenging and painful process. As individuals, we must recognize the phases of conceiving and birthing new ideas, projects, or dreams. The journey is often filled with pain, setbacks, and overwhelming moments. Witnessing a cow in labor, pushing, gasping, and enduring immense pain, reminds us of the struggles we face in our pursuits. Just as the cow endures to bring new life, we must persevere through our trials. The rejections, disappointments, and sleepless nights are part of the birthing process for our dreams and goals. Remember, though weeping may endure for nights, joy comes in the morning. Endure the pain of the moment, for the glory is about to shine forth. I hope you gained relevant insights today. Which stage of calving do you think assistance is needed? What other life-lessons can we draw from the calving process of a cow? One of the 5 domains of post-traumatic growth is new possibilities. It is about redefining hope and what is possible for you in the aftermath of trauma. I would have never guessed I would be a homesteader. I don't have a green thumb. I didn't know anything about caring for farm animals. But I did know how to learn. The military teaches you how to improvise, adapt, and overcome. So that is what I did. I wanted a hoop house on our property to serve dual purposes. So I made one. I found a tutorial on youtube and read dozens of articles about using a hoop house effectively. In the spring, summer, and fall, this DIY hoop house grows nutritious, organic foods for my family and community. In the winter, we will use it to house the laying hen flock. No need to buy compost or fertilizer for the hoop house. The chickens will take care of all of that for me. In the spring, we will plant in it again. It's a cycle. If you are still breathing, you have new possibilities. Trauma can be used for good things. You just have to decide to do it. #mentalhealth #regenerativeagriculture #posttraumaticgrowth #strugglewell #veteran #firstresponder

Lameness can have severe impacts on your herd and your bottom line—from fertility and milk yield to culling rates and beyond. But what if there were a way to reduce the risk and cost of lameness while increasing cow comfort and performance? Rubber flooring solutions like Animat's Pebble Top mats support cow mobility and help to reduce the risk of lameness with added traction, safety, and comfort. Enhanced cow comfort means reduced costs associated with lameness, improved milk yield through increased feed intake, reduced culling, higher herd retention, and better support for fertility and genetic potential. Every farmer, at some point, deals with cases of lameness within the herd. However, creating the right environment can minimize its impact and protect your farm’s productivity. How Entropy Makes Them Smart Entropy in decision trees is a measure of randomness or impurity in a dataset. It helps to determine how mixed the classes are within a node of the tree. High Entropy: It Means the data is very mixed up (high impurity). For example, if you have a group of animals with an equal mix of cats and dogs, the entropy is high because it's a 50/50 split. Low Entropy: It Means the data is more uniform (low impurity). For example, if you have a group of animals where almost all are cats and only a few are dogs, the entropy is low because it's mostly one class. Decision Making: A decision tree uses entropy to decide where to split the data. It looks for splits that result in the lowest entropy (or highest purity) in the resulting nodes. By splitting the data in a way that reduces entropy, the decision tree becomes better at classifying data points because each split makes the groups more homogeneous. #datascience #machinelearning #data #entropy #decisiontree

Ever considered adding chickens, ducks, or rabbits to your backyard? Let me tell ya, raising these critters is quite the adventure and a fantastic way to dive into sustainable living. Chickens are like your morning alarm with benefits--fresh eggs for breakfast, anyone? Just make sure they’ve got a comfy coop and space to roam. Ducks? They're the comedians of the animal kingdom, always up for a splash and a quack. Plus, they help keep pesky bugs at bay. Rabbits, with their cute twitchy noses, are perfect for a small space and their droppings are garden gold, enriching your soil like nobody's business. Here's a pro tip: Set up a solid routine for feeding and cleaning—it’s a lifesaver, especially if you're managing ADHD. Structure keeps chaos in check, and your new fluffy friends will thrive on it. It’s all about finding that balance between tech distractions and hands-on nature therapy, and trust me, these animals will make sure you embrace living in the moment. Got questions? Let’s chat in the comments. Or join my Tuesday livestream sessions at 9:45 PM ET where we dig deeper into these topics. #BackyardFarming #SustainableLiving #NatureTherapy

Did you know that chickens raised for meat and eggs endure unnatural and often painful lives? Broiler chickens are selectively bred to grow at a rapid pace, forcing their bodies to become much larger than they would naturally, often leading to painful conditions. For layer hens, the cycle is equally grueling: bred solely for egg production, they’re forced to lay eggs almost daily, an exhausting process that takes a heavy toll on their bodies. And, yes, eggs are actually a hen’s unfertilized reproductive material, similar to menstruation in mammals. These animals are often kept in cramped spaces with minimal freedom to move, and sadly, most don’t live beyond a few years. Despite their natural instincts and desire for space, comfort, and connection, they are treated as mere production units. It's a life cycle far removed from nature and one driven by profit over their well-being.
