The $400m, 30MGD (expandable to 90MGD) #design and #construction initiative will upgrade the #water system on TexAmericas Center and the 18 served member entities across Northeast #Texas. The Project is expected to break round in December 2025 and be complete by December 2027. The project water source is Lake Wright Patman, and the treatment #facility is to be located on TexAmericas Centers 8,900-acre East Campus. The improved water system will: 1) Build a new #intake, water #treatment plant, and #distribution system; 2) Satisfy regulatory standards by replacing aging #infrastructure; 3) Improve water #quality by addressing sediment and odor caused by the current treatment process; and 4) Meet the projected water needs (#industrial, #commercial and #residential) of the growing An added benefit of the #development is that #rawwater, at industrial #capacity, will become an available #utility. #Texarkana region for the next 50 years. #economicdevelopment #siteselection #realestate #Industrialpark #foodprocessing #chemical #energy #manufacturing #agriculture #agribusiness #commercialrealestate #texasrealestate #sewer

Glad to be supporting Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District on examining the potential for carbon finance to add to Yahara WINS! From their just-published 2023 Annual Report: "The District is working with Virridy, a company working to quantify climate benefits of avoided technology construction. Through Yahara WINS, wastewater utilities are avoiding the significant greenhouse gas emissions associated with building tertiary treatment, like advanced filtration systems, to remove phosphorus. These avoided emissions can be quantified and certified as credits to be sold on the voluntary carbon market." https://lnkd.in/gv7qHGaj

These reports are a terrific resource for our region as we tackle the growing impacts of nutrient enrichment, estuarine clearing, rising sea- and groundwater levels, and more intense storms. Nature-based solutions like treatment wetlands, subsurface seepage "horizontal" levees, and POP (periphyton-assisted oxidative photodegredation) cells are powerful tools to support clean water and climate resilience!

In arid New Mexico, rural towns eye treated oil wastewater as a solution to drought. Oh yes they are. Think Texas (or any other place) should follow suit? "Our future is going to depend on the future of that produced water," said one New Mexico politician. A growing group of New Mexico politicians want the state to develop regulations allowing for the millions of gallons of so-called produced water to be used cheaply, safely and at scale. Around 10 wastewater treatment firms in New Mexico are taking up the challenge under a state-supported pilot program. In Texas, we’re working on that research, too. But talk about critical public outreach. If you think convincing people that direct potable is doable, even with its successful use elsewhere, produced water will be that much harder. Statia is exploring a new approach to addressing its water challenges. They are considering a concept called Xploration Coastline (XCC), which involves the use of floating water treatment plants. This project, supported by the government, aims to ensure that everyone in Statia has sufficient clean water, assist with local food production, and prepare for future water shortages caused by climate change. Experts will collaborate with local communities to determine whether XCC is a suitable solution for Statia. If successful, it could provide a more reliable water supply, foster agricultural growth, and enhance preparedness for future water challenges. It is essential to recognise that this issue extends beyond the local context and has global implications. With increasing water scarcity and the growing demand for bottled water worldwide, it is crucial to reassess the arrangements surrounding this practice. Given the drying climate conditions in Western Australia, it serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by regions around the world. Many areas are experiencing similar water scarcity issues, and the unsustainable use of groundwater exacerbates the problem. Balancing industry needs with the preservation of the natural environment is a complex task that requires collaboration and innovative solutions. By addressing the challenges faced by Coca-Cola in their use of Perth Hills groundwater, we contribute to the broader conversation on water resource management and emphasise the importance of responsible water consumption on a global scale.
