▶ Govt aims to reduce airfares by 10 percent by October The government is aiming to bring down domestic airfares by 10 percent before the current administration ends in October, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said on Sunday. Sandiaga said this would help regions where airline tickets were more costly than average, particularly destinations in eastern Indonesia and Sumatra. “We are still exploring [how to achieve the price reduction],” Sandiaga told reporters in East Java, as quoted by Detik. Statistics Indonesia data shows 62.55 million people took domestic flights last year, below the pre-pandemic level of 76.69 million in 2019. This decision was made to coincide with the development of a new electronic travel authorization (ETA) system by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is expected to replace the TM6 form. Additionally, the new system may integrate tourism fee collection, further streamlining the process for travelers. The 16 designated checkpoints where the TM6 form suspension applies include key land and sea borders, allowing easier access for travelers while the ETA system is under development. The checkpoints include: 1. Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai 2. Mae Sai, Chiang Rai 3. Nong Khai 4. Sadao, Songkhla 5. Padang Besar, Songkhla 6. Ban Pak Bara, Satun 7. Mukdahan 8. Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo 9. ***What is the outlook for the Thai Baht in the coming quarters? ***In the second and third quarters of 2024, the Thai Baht is expected to face depreciation pressures from at least three factors: (1) the historically high policy interest rate differential between the United States and Thailand, (2) the tourism sector entering its low season, and (3) the repatriation of profits and dividends by foreign companies, amidst the backdrop of Thailand's economic growth being the lowest in the ASEAN region. ***However, the Baht is likely to appreciate in the fourth quarter as the Federal Reserve's stance becomes clearer and the tourism sector returns to its high season, supporting a current account surplus.

MNL's airport will be turned over to a new management tomorrow. The new management have submitted a proposal to shuffle airline operations to different terminals, particularly the proposal to split Philippine Airlines (PR/PAL) and Cebu Pacific's (5J/CEB) domestic and international operations into two different terminals which I deem incovenient to passengers given that MNL is one of the worst airports to make connections. The good news is, the status quo will remain until a final agreement can be settled between NNIC and the airline operators.
Cebu Pacific advises its passengers that all Cebu Pacific (5J) domestic and international flights remain at NAIA Terminal 3, while Cebgo (DG) flights continue to operate from NAIA Terminal 4. CEB fully supports the long-term vision of the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., and we will continue to work with our partners so future plans are executed smoothly.
