Eliza Babarczy co-founded Itza Wood in Guatemala’s Peten Jungle, inspired by two powerful goals: supporting the Jungle School her parents founded in 1999 and creating sustainable jobs for its graduates. Today, her vision thrives as 50 skilled artisans craft stunning, sustainable wood homewares right in the heart of the jungle. For Eliza, success isn’t just measured in numbers—it’s in the social and environmental impact of the work, the joy of spotting their handcrafted spoons on TV, and the stories of team members achieving milestones like buying a motorcycle or sending a sibling to school. This is where makers make—with heart, resilience, and a deep respect for the land and its people.✨ What inspires you to create? Learn more about Itza Wood here: https://hubs.li/Q02_Cd_P0

Ending this month on a high!! I'm pretty sure I don't need to duplicate all the benefits of living walls and green roofs, so I will keep this months final front cover post short and sweet. Greening our cities is a no brainer, and for those who have been following my page you will know that today marks the end of Zombie Awareness month. The best way to celebrate that is to close on a positive... Besides the many benefits of green roofs, they sure would make a secure retreat from a zombie apocalypse. Once the tinned goods run out, home grown produce would be a must... alongside sunbathing without groaning noises and the fear of being bitten... Bliss!! A win for nature and a win for humanity To follow...A round up of this month in my next post and what to expect moving forward. Great things are on the way!! #Zombieawarenessmonth #Zombie #Zombies #Awarenessmonth #Greenroofs #Greenarchitecture #Livingwalls #Magazinecover #Magazine

Less than a month to go if you fancy digging deep into the caverns of your/our minds. Drawing can be anything, placemaking can be anything, and how you define, expand, explore, philosophise this through practice research, through the key components of environment, history and identity, is boundless, and will have an impact on life (human, animal or plant) in some way: https://lnkd.in/e99B2gmw #drawingasplacemaking #environmenthistoryidentity #practiceresearch #expandeddrawingpractices #placemakingissociopolitical #universityofhuddersfield #ArtAndHumanities

As we approach the end of the year, it's important to reflect on the progress we've made and the milestones we've achieved. December is often a time for celebration, and our projects over the past month certainly give us plenty to be proud of. We’ve been hard at work, collaborating and innovating, and I’m excited to share some of our December Project Highlights so far. Let’s dive into what we've been up to! Transforming an animal shelter by applying a durable epoxy floor coating and refreshing the wall paint. School Grounds Improvement: Install fresh borders and clean brick walls to create a polished appearance. Brick Refresh: Pressure washing brick walls to enhance their natural beauty and ensure longevity.

"To solve real-life problems and make the world a better place." This what motivates me to study environmental engineering despite all the struggles and challenges the current environmental situation presents. I am yet to finish my thesis but this children's storybook is my prelude — to inspire little ones (and the grown-ups) to care and to take action. Paying it forward to Captain Planet. #HappyEarthDay! You can read along with the super short animated story (for free) in the link shared in the comment box below. 💗 🌍

Watching the press and public respond to the opening of PDX's new terminal has been so rewarding. In 2021, when I began helping Port of Portland with storytelling around PDX Next, I thought, cool client! But what do I know about airports? So far, I've learned about: • The innovative possibilities of mass timber • The promises and challenges of sustainable forestry in the Northwest • The groundbreaking work Northwest tribes are doing to restore their sovereign lands • Local businesses finding gorgeous new uses for lumber waste and small hardwood trees • What the heck a ground-source heat pump is (this took several interviews) • How massive projects like PDX Next can help small businesses scale up and ensure local BIPOC- and women-owned businesses share in the prosperity There's still 18 months of construction left, but I hope you enjoy the very cool architecture, art, and food on your next visit to PDX, knowing that the behind-the-scenes story may be even more impressive. www.pdxnext.com
