Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), led by the Department of Energy, have developed a thin, flexible solid-state electrolyte that could significantly enhance energy storage in next-generation batteries for electric vehicles, mobile devices, and laptops. By using a polymer to create a robust yet flexible thin film, the team has advanced the production of solid-state batteries, which promise greater safety, performance, and energy density compared to traditional batteries using liquid electrolytes. 🔋 IMPACT unveils a functional prototype of a heavy-duty battery pack based on semi-solid cells! 📢 We’re excited to announce that Bartek Kras, Ph.D., Vice President of Impact Clean Power Technology S.A., will attend the upcoming #SolidStateBatterySummit in Chicago, where he'll discuss the design considerations of our heavy-duty battery pack prototype featuring semi-solid cells. 🚀 At #IMPACT, we stay ahead of the rapidly evolving battery market by continuously testing and evaluating new solutions. One of the most promising advancements in battery systems is solid-state technology. However, all-solid-state cells have not yet achieved the level of maturity required for widespread adoption in the automotive and heavy-duty markets. Treasures from the archives, part 28 History is even yesterday and even a couple of minutes ago. This is why this new entry to our product archives looks so brand-new. It is a hydrogen power module for heavy duty trucks, manufactured in 2023, replacing a diesel engine, made for experimental and exhibition purposes. Measuring 1.5 m² and quite heavy, roundabout 800 kg, it marks the start of series production of hydrogen technology for heavy commercial vehicles at Bosch. It is a time witness for Bosch entering a new area as a supplier for different hydrogen solutions: Fuel cell technology for generating power and heat in buildings, fuel cells for light trucks, generating energy for electric drives, as well as technology for generating hydrogen, the electrolyzers. It’s more comfortable for us historians to wait for years or decades before starting acquisition of items being worth archived. And sometimes, people are quite astonished if you’re asking for quite new technology for the archives. But it’s worth doing that, because you can acquire potential milestones of the company history, before they vanish, and in excellent condition without restoration being necessary. Before we got this wonderful item for our archives, we simply asked for hydrogen stacks and components, deciding parts of a fuel cell system. But thankfully, the colleagues of the Bosch business unit offered a complete power module that was not needed anymore for test or exhibition use. We are very proud and thankful that we have this heavy load in our facilities now. It will surely be become a time witness when people at Bosch look back to the beginnings of 21st century in 50 years. And every time, when Bosch business units will ask for technology representing the beginnings of hydrogen-related series products for exhibition, we will be able to say “yes, we do have something in stock”. #bosch #likeabosch #fuelcell #hydrogen #mobility #sustainable

50% of vehicles must be battery electric in 2030 to meet the EU climate targets. By then European cell prices are likely to be as low as 50 to 70 €/kWh, while simultaneously meeting societal and sustainability requirements as well. Even though Asian cell manufacturers are outpacing us at the moment, forcing big European players such as Northvolt , ACC - Automotive Cells Company and SVOLT Energy Technology (Europe) GmbH to shift strategies, I am optimistic that more effective close-collaboration will allow for a competitive European battery cell industry - of qualitative, sustainable battery cells - eventually. "We need competition…" not just between players in the field, but between technologies as well.
