Hydropower generates approximately 14-17% of the world's electricity, playing a crucial role in the renewable energy sector. However, it faces challenges such as ecosystem impacts and risks to aquatic life. A new type of hydro turbine has been developed to address these concerns. This Fish Safe Restoration Hydro Turbine (RHT) features thick, curved blades that create an "airbag" effect, reducing the likelihood of direct strikes on fish. Impressively, it maintains over 90% peak hydraulic efficiency and can be applied to both new and existing hydropower plants. Tests have shown a 100% immediate survival rate and a 48-hour survival rate for fish passage. This advancement allows for the generation of clean energy while helping to preserve river ecosystems. #interestingengineering #RenewableEnergy #Hydropower #CleanEnergy #SustainableTech #EcoFriendly #HydraulicEfficiency #GreenInnovation #RiverConservation #EcosystemProtection #AquaticLife #SustainableFuture #EnergySolutions #EnvironmentalImpact #InnovativeTechnology

🌊 The Environmental Impact of Hydropower: Balancing Benefits and Challenges 🌊 Hydropower is celebrated for its clean energy production, but like all energy sources, it has environmental considerations. At Redemption Solar and Roofing, we advocate for balanced, informed discussions about sustainable energy. Benefits of Hydropower: • Low Carbon Footprint: Hydropower generates electricity without burning fossil fuels, making it one of the cleanest energy sources. • Renewable Resource: As long as water cycles exist, hydropower remains a sustainable option. • Habitat Creation: Reservoirs created by hydropower plants can serve as habitats for aquatic and terrestrial life. Challenges: • Habitat Disruption: Construction of dams can alter river ecosystems, affecting fish migration and water flow. • Sedimentation: Reservoirs can accumulate sediment over time, reducing efficiency and requiring maintenance. • Community Impact: Large projects can displace communities and alter landscapes. By investing in modern, eco-friendly hydropower technologies and designs, these challenges can be mitigated. Redemption Solar and Roofing is here to guide you in understanding renewable energy's full scope. #HydropowerImpact #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #RedemptionSolarAndRoofing

Once again we celebrate Global Hydropower Day on this magnificent date where I was also born. Hydropower has treated me very well throughout my carrer and I'm very thankfull for the coincidences that led me into getting involved with Hydropower. Now I believe it is a new era for hydropower, where it will be no longer the "Prime Event", but rather an enabler of other technologies or infrastructure. Hydropower used to be base load and key reason for developing dams. Now, hydropower, including pumped storage, shall have a more secondary role, to either support the development of other crucial climate resiliance infrastracture, or enabling the grids to take the required amounts of variable renewables such as Solar and Wind. But I do not see this as a downgrade, just as an natural evolution of the technologies. This "secondary role" is not less important. So, we shall keep on pushing for the sustainable development of flexible and reliable Hydropower and Pumped Storage Hydropower. #GlobalHydropowerDay #WithHydropower
