I'm feeling energized after returning from PropTech Connect yesterday. Pictured here is our Per Grosskopf giving a high level guide to the business impact of proptech. What a vibrant ecosystem proptech is becoming! While it's still a fledgling industry, it's clear we are maturing year over year.
The conference was, of course, filled with proptech companies—mostly startups and scaleups. Some would say there were too many. 😉 But making buildings smarter, more sustainable, and better to be in is no small task. It would be far more concerning if the common sentiment was a lack of innovation and ideas.
On the property owner side, it's evident that everyone is beginning to apply proptech innovations to their portfolios and businesses. No one I met considers themselves "finished," but that's a positive sign of maturity. Everyone, at least those attending Proptech Connect (selection bias alert!), has a frame of reference based on their own experiences.
I discovered a couple of promising new proptech apps that we hadn't seen before. I'm excited to see what they will bring to the ecosystem and hopefully, soon, work alongside us.
One pattern I've noticed over the last 6-12 months at various real estate and proptech conferences is that when people talk about the ultimate solution for the industry, they often describe, in vague terms, what we’ve already achieved with #RealEstateCore over the past few years. We still have some work to do to make sure these calls for a robust standard for data, integrations, and applications align with our concrete open-source initiative—and to simply spread the word.
On a personal note, I’m reminded of how much I enjoy talking with proptech startups and property owner innovators, hearing about their work and their perspectives on the industry.
