The world desperately needs an 'Ease of doing good' or 'Ease of doing non-profit organizations' ranking and index. ~ 2-years of global grant-making and grant management has taught me that non-profit grants - giving and taking is so difficult. Every continent and every country has different and varying degrees of restrictions and regulations. So many different forms and processes to follow. Because of these regulations, even banks and financial institutions have even more due diligence and processes to adhere to. If I were a non-profit or policymaker advocating for simpler regulations or someone advocating for more restrictions I should be able to find an index to compare the policies and restrictions in different countries to advocate accordingly. Obviously, there exists a lot of issues with the definition of Good and if businesses are not doing good etc. That discussion is polarising and important. However I'm more interested in the conversation from the lens of grantmaking / grant receiving and non-profit operations in general. I'm also curious if such indices already exist and where your country stands.

Having transitioned from the private sector to the technology non-profit world, I've gained insights into the stark differences in financial environments. In the private sector, abundant budgets and safety nets for unexpected expenses are the norm. In contrast, the non-profit sector faces constant pressure for budget cuts and overhead reductions without adequate justification. This experience has been eye-opening, revealing the contrasting realities between these two worlds. The non-profit sector plays a significant role in impacting society in small and big ways. Despite this, the financial constraints are exceptionally tight and closely monitored. It's counterintuitive yet understandable that our society's values, deeply rooted in capitalism, might not always provide the ideal solution for societal well-being. Capitalism has led to the inequalities we witness today, creating problems that non-profits strive to address. It feels like a manufactured two-body problem, challenging but essential to navigate. Looking forward to hearing and learning from the thoughts of those who have been on this journey and are still going. What tools does your non-profit organization utilize to stay afloat in challenging financial times? Who is helping keep your well-being afloat? #nonprofit #privatevsnonprofit #financials

Non-profits typically aren't *thrilled* when it's evaluation reporting time. When it's time to... - Wade through the various data they've collected (or panic because they haven't collected enough of the right stuff). - Make sense of the data against the outcomes they set (maybe many moons ago?) that the funder will be looking for. - Find time and resources to collect additional stories and feedback from beneficiaries when staff time is tight. - Combine the quantitative and qualitative data and condense it into an engaging summary report that meets the funders' needs - and hopefully persuades them to re-fund the work. Simple eh? Or not so much. If you know of a non-profit that needs help with evaluation reporting, I can help. ________________________________________________________ I'm Sarah. I help social change organisations show the difference they make through evaluation and capturing learning. Work with me and share the great work you do.

Celebrating Our CIC Status on Access to Information Day Access to information should be a right for every human being. On this day, we are proud to announce that My Little Zen is officially registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in the UK! This not-for-profit status means that any profit we generate is reinvested into our mission: empowering communities through universal and affordable internet access. As part of our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goal 9, we are working to provide internet access in the least developed countries, enabling access to crucial information. By installing public access points in communities, we ensure that anyone nearby can connect free of charge to resources ranging from health information to educational courses. Empowering communities with information is a vital step toward a brighter, more connected future. Together, we can make a difference! We report annually to The Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies, showcasing our positive impact on communities. Join us in celebrating Access to Information Day! #AccessToInfoDay #RightToInformation #GlobalGoals #UnitedNations #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #Nonprofit #CommunitySupport #MakeADifference
