Absolutely! The hiring landscape is evolving, and it’s time we celebrate this change. Can a candidate from a Tier 3 college secure a job in one of the Big 4 firms? Recently, during a session with one of my trainees, she shared an inspiring story. Despite being from a Tier 3 college, her batchmates were getting placed in prestigious firms like Deloitte and EY. This wasn’t an isolated case. Another trainee of mine, a graduate from a small-town college, told me how she landed an internship at PwC. She didn’t have the pedigree of a top-tier institution, but her skills in data analysis and her proactive approach caught the recruiter’s eye. She not only secured the internship but was later offered a full-time role. The Big 4 and other top firms have realized that talent knows no boundaries, and here’s why this matters: ✅ Skills > Degrees: The era of college bias is fading. Employers are focusing on what you bring to the table, not where you studied. ✅ Financial Relief: Students from Tier 3 colleges often avoid the massive fees of Tier 1 institutions but still get similar opportunities. ✅ Equal Playing Field: Companies like EY, PwC, and Deloitte are actively expanding their reach, looking for potential everywhere . As a corporate trainer, I always emphasize this: Your college doesn’t define your worth, your skills and mindset do. So, whether you’re from a Tier 1, 2, or 3 college, focus on learning, networking, and seizing opportunities. The doors to success are wide open for those who work hard and stay determined. #SkillsMatter #CareerGrowth #Big4 #Hiring #CorporateTraining

KPMG India Internship - May-July 2024 Key takeaways - Realized #DunningKruger effect at its peak 😛 - Use a scientific method of #problemsolving which revolves around validating or invalidating hypotheses. - A 5 minute conversation with a subject matter expert = 2 days of reading documentation - Don’t hesitate to ask even the smallest questions - it is easier to do and apologize, than to wait and seek permission. - Importance of mutual respect. Despite being at the bottom of the organizational pyramid as an intern, I never felt unheard. - Trust your mentors/seniors, they have better clarity of the Business what-how's than you - but don't shy away from challenging their opinions. As students, we often seek validation from the industry to re-assure ourselves that we are on the right path. Securing an #internship at #KPMG offered me just that—a sense of recognition and the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of #managementconsulting. Stepping into a corporate environment was like trading in my textbooks for real-world challenges. I saw my theoretical concepts take the form of complex problems demanding practical solutions. I learned that being a management consultant is more than just crunching numbers and making pretty presentations. It’s about looking at a problem from every angle, like an eagle surveying its territory. We were taught to dissect issues, layer by layer, until we uncovered the #rootcause. My colleagues at KPMG were always willing to lend a hand. I was amazed at their ability to juggle multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and still find time to mentor someone like me. The collaborative spirit was contagious, and I quickly realized the importance of #teamwork. My internship also provided a glimpse into the fast-paced nature of consulting. Deadlines were tight, expectations were high, and adaptability was key. I developed strong work ethics and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. It was challenging at times, but the sense of accomplishment that came with overcoming hurdles was incredibly rewarding. Thank you Saurabh Gupta Prakash Powdel Kshitij Gautam C V Srinivasa Siddhartha for your guidance & direction. You helped me peak my learning in the 2 months at KPMG. UPES School of Business, UPES

Here's how I got into Deloitte as a Senior Consultant having NEVER even worked in an office environment before: Month 1: The first person I could get ahold of said, "We don't hire people from your school to join our GPS team. It's just not an option." Month 2: People 2 through 30 said, "Unfortunately, you don't really have the type of background we're looking for." Month 3: Finally got in front of the right person, who said, "Your background is perfect for our GPS team. Let's set up an interview." Month 5: After 10 interviews, a partner called me and said, "We'd love to have you intern with us this summer." Month 8: After the internship the CPO said, "We really want you to join us full-time. Here's the highest-paying offer and signing bonus we've given any intern this year. And we'll pay for the second year of your MBA tuition." Keep networking, keep learning, and never take no for an answer. #coaching #jobseekers

Believe that they will crack a big opportunity, for sure. 4. Quantification is in their resume and cold email. 5. Never be jealous of anyone. 6. They show gratitude. 7. Never give up attitude These are some pointers that I found common in those 90+ people in my connection who got into big firms. What's your point? You might have heard the term ‘Big 4’ thrown around a lot. The ‘Big 4’ is the nickname used to refer to the four largest global accounting firms. The four are: Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG). Although they are known for accountancy, these titans offer a vast range of services. This reputation might make them seem daunting and unattainable, but these companies offer a fair number of internships and graduate schemes to university students. Being employed early on by one of the Big 4 will set you up for great future success. Get ready for when these opportunities start cropping up in the autumn! #topgrad #industryinsights #accountancy #big4 #careersearch #graduatescheme #ey #deloitte #pwc #kpmg

How I got into Deloitte USI without applying? I receive a lot of DMs on how I got an internship at Deloitte USI in the 2nd year of my college. I did not sit for my college's internship cycle. I had my CA Intermediate examinations and nothing else mattered at that time. However, out of FOMO, I did apply to several case study competitions. One of them being Deloitte's GSM. I took that seriously because the theme of the competition aligned with my CA curriculum. Our team went till the semi-finals and they gave out offers for the summer internships through that. So what did I learn after this process? ▶️ It's okay to not follow the common path and walk on your own trail. ▶️ Self doubt is the worst thing you could do to yourself. It takes you absolutely nowhere. ▶️ No one. Absolutely no one but you decide where you are meant to be. ▶️ Always be prepared. Don't take any interaction lightly. It can be a path maker or breaker for you. ▶️ A calm mind wins all battles! #deloitte #big4 #internship

Are you an under grad with no internships and wondering if you’ll be able to find a job after college? 🌟 Contrary to the popular belief, I made it through the EY interviews without any prior internship experience. I knew that I had to shift my focus from my weaknesses (e.g., no internship) to my strengths. 💫 Here’s what I did and you can too – Revamp your CV and embrace your uniqueness -Trust me, it's all about showcasing your wins!📝 Make you’re your CV screams, “I am awesome!” I highlighted my academic achievements, roles of responsibility at Enactus and Placement cell, and relevant skill enhancement courses. As long as you can prove how you made best use of your college life, you’re going to be okay Prepped for tech interview: – I went through all the basics of accounting and auditing and brushed up my academic knowledge to ace the interview. Remember, it is always what you bring to the table on the D-day that matters the most Hone those soft skills: Let's talk people skills! 💬 While tech prowess is essential, don't forget to polish those soft skills too. 💼 Whether it's communication, teamwork, or problem-solving, show 'em you're the whole package! And if you’ve got the offer, celebrate it, but don’t sit tight if you believe you can get a better role – keep applying and you’ll land up at the right place 😊 P.S. that's me holding the Best Anchor award from EY #Ernstandyoung #LinkedInforcreators #Consulting #DelhiUniversity #Big4 #Auditing #BcomHonors #Campusplacement #Hiring

Why I Declined an offer from EY Some of you might be thinking, "Is she out of her mind?" Well, let me explain. I know most of you might think, am I even in my senses to decline an offer from Big4 where people are dying to go. I did but there were sort of genuine reasons I could list - 1) The role was of Talent Acquisition, I wanted to go for Audit and Assurance role. 2) The first 2 months were unpaid, it was an internship based role then I was offered to convert it full time. Being a graduate I won't find it suitable to go for an Internship, that too out of my domain interests. Many a times we reject offers because it doesn't fit our brackets. It's better to fetch good hands, rather than planning aimlessly. I believe rather than saying yes to everything, aim for roles that truly fit your skills and ambitions. After all, it’s better to be in the right role than just any role! PS -Have you occured such instances too where you needed to decline offers from big brands?
