You might have heard the term ‘Big 4’ thrown around a lot. The ‘Big 4’ is the nickname used to refer to the four largest global accounting firms. The four are: Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG). Although they are known for accountancy, these titans offer a vast range of services. This reputation might make them seem daunting and unattainable, but these companies offer a fair number of internships and graduate schemes to university students. Being employed early on by one of the Big 4 will set you up for great future success. Get ready for when these opportunities start cropping up in the autumn! #topgrad #industryinsights #accountancy #big4 #careersearch #graduatescheme #ey #deloitte #pwc #kpmg

Yesterday, I and over a thousand other students had the privilege of participating in a virtual work experience organized by KPMG and Young Professionals. The day was filled with valuable learning opportunities such as when we: - gained insights into KPMG's history, values, and what they stand for. - discussed the role of AI, machine learning, and deep learning in the accounting and audit industry and how KPMG are incorporating it into their work. - were introduced to various options available to school leavers, such as apprenticeships and graduate and undergraduate programs. - heard from KPMG apprentices themselves, sharing their various diverse experiences. - put ourselves in the role of a KPMG employee giving advice to a client looking to expand their business, presenting our own ideas to the YP team. This experience broadened my ever-growing schema and I am grateful for the opportunity to participate. Many thanks to KPMG, Young Professionals and Dan M. for hosting this event. #KPMG #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerInsights #YoungProfessionals #EmployabilitySkills #VirtualEvent

KPMG India Internship - May-July 2024 Key takeaways - Realized #DunningKruger effect at its peak 😛 - Use a scientific method of #problemsolving which revolves around validating or invalidating hypotheses. - A 5 minute conversation with a subject matter expert = 2 days of reading documentation - Don’t hesitate to ask even the smallest questions - it is easier to do and apologize, than to wait and seek permission. - Importance of mutual respect. Despite being at the bottom of the organizational pyramid as an intern, I never felt unheard. - Trust your mentors/seniors, they have better clarity of the Business what-how's than you - but don't shy away from challenging their opinions. As students, we often seek validation from the industry to re-assure ourselves that we are on the right path. Securing an #internship at #KPMG offered me just that—a sense of recognition and the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of #managementconsulting. Stepping into a corporate environment was like trading in my textbooks for real-world challenges. I saw my theoretical concepts take the form of complex problems demanding practical solutions. I learned that being a management consultant is more than just crunching numbers and making pretty presentations. It’s about looking at a problem from every angle, like an eagle surveying its territory. We were taught to dissect issues, layer by layer, until we uncovered the #rootcause. My colleagues at KPMG were always willing to lend a hand. I was amazed at their ability to juggle multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and still find time to mentor someone like me. The collaborative spirit was contagious, and I quickly realized the importance of #teamwork. My internship also provided a glimpse into the fast-paced nature of consulting. Deadlines were tight, expectations were high, and adaptability was key. I developed strong work ethics and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. It was challenging at times, but the sense of accomplishment that came with overcoming hurdles was incredibly rewarding. Thank you Saurabh Gupta Prakash Powdel Kshitij Gautam C V Srinivasa Siddhartha for your guidance & direction. You helped me peak my learning in the 2 months at KPMG. UPES School of Business, UPES

Absolutely! The hiring landscape is evolving, and it’s time we celebrate this change. Can a candidate from a Tier 3 college secure a job in one of the Big 4 firms? Recently, during a session with one of my trainees, she shared an inspiring story. Despite being from a Tier 3 college, her batchmates were getting placed in prestigious firms like Deloitte and EY. This wasn’t an isolated case. Another trainee of mine, a graduate from a small-town college, told me how she landed an internship at PwC. She didn’t have the pedigree of a top-tier institution, but her skills in data analysis and her proactive approach caught the recruiter’s eye. She not only secured the internship but was later offered a full-time role. The Big 4 and other top firms have realized that talent knows no boundaries, and here’s why this matters: ✅ Skills > Degrees: The era of college bias is fading. Employers are focusing on what you bring to the table, not where you studied. ✅ Financial Relief: Students from Tier 3 colleges often avoid the massive fees of Tier 1 institutions but still get similar opportunities. ✅ Equal Playing Field: Companies like EY, PwC, and Deloitte are actively expanding their reach, looking for potential everywhere . As a corporate trainer, I always emphasize this: Your college doesn’t define your worth, your skills and mindset do. So, whether you’re from a Tier 1, 2, or 3 college, focus on learning, networking, and seizing opportunities. The doors to success are wide open for those who work hard and stay determined. #SkillsMatter #CareerGrowth #Big4 #Hiring #CorporateTraining

I Turned Down an Offer letter from EY!! In the beginning of my final year, I turned it down It was one of those moments where you’re excited, proud, but also incredibly torn. I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with one of the Big Four, right? But here’s why I said no: 👉 𝐃𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: The internship was of more than 2 months, which conflicted with my packed schedule of projects, classes, and upcoming college elections (I stood for president and won later). 👉 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐚𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐝: While experience is valuable but I had other paid offers at that moment, Thus I chose to spend more time learning, experimenting, and growing while earning a decent amount. 👉𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 > 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬: In college, I encountered some moments that made me realize that impact mattered more than just a brand name on my resume. Rejecting such a big offer wasn’t easy, but looking back, it allowed me to create opportunities that were more in line with who I am and where I see myself going now. The bottom line calculated risk often pays off in the long run, always make a pros and cons list (big help) PS: Have you been through something similar?
