Visiting various regions of the world enriches your life as you get to step outside of your comfort zone and discover destinations other than your home. Worldwide ERC investigates the value of allowing children to travel alongside you and see the sites, but more importantly, to experience what occurs when things don't go according to plan. Giving children these experiences encourages patience, understanding of how to be flexible with schedules, and developing confidence when confronting an issue at hand. Refer to the article highlighted in our “Good Reads” for more information on why children should be involved in travel and decisions made along the way. https://lnkd.in/g8inqnhU

This got us thinking about commissioning a study on teacher happiness by country... It seems that Nordic countries continue to excel when it comes to studies like this both in terms of general population happiness but also as it pertains to education. With international markets opening up a number of new International schools operating a Finnish curriculum. Which countries do you think would come out on top if such a study would be undertaken - UAE, Finland, Canada, Japan? These are some of our thoughts where generally speaking teacher happiness seems much higher. Do you think the UK or US would even come close to the top 20? Criteria wise, we're thinking: vacation policy, work/life balance, school community, student behaviour, compensation. Can you think of more factors and would you be interested in seeing such data? Let us know! 🏫 😃

# The Swedish Love for Nature: A Cultural Cornerstone Sweden's deep connection to nature is more than just a national pastime—it's a fundamental aspect of Swedish culture and identity. From the unique "allemansrätten" (right of public access) to the concept of "friluftsliv" (open-air living), Swedes have cultivated a profound appreciation for the outdoors that shapes their lifestyle, values, and national character. This love for nature manifests in various ways: 1. **Allemansrätten**: A law allowing free roaming in nature, even on private property, fostering easy access to the outdoors. 2. **Friluftsliv**: The concept of open-air living, encouraging outdoor activities for physical and mental well-being. 3. **Outdoor Activities**: Hiking, skiing, berry picking, and orienteering are popular across all age groups. 4. **Nature as Sanctuary**: Many Swedes view nature as a place to find peace and escape daily stresses. 5. **Historical Roots**: The connection to nature is deeply rooted in Sweden's agrarian past. 6. **Environmental Consciousness**: Swedes are known for their strong commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation. 7. **Work-Life Balance**: Swedish culture prioritizes free time, often spent enjoying nature. 8. **Childhood Education**: Swedish schools often incorporate nature-based learning and outdoor classrooms. 9. **Seasonal Appreciation**: Swedes have learned to enjoy each season's unique outdoor offerings. 10. **Identity**: Spending time in nature is closely tied to the Swedish sense of national and personal identity. This deep-seated love for nature isn't just a personal preference—it's a cultural value that influences everything from environmental policies to urban planning and lifestyle choices. As the world grapples with environmental challenges, perhaps we can all take a page from the Swedish playbook and cultivate a deeper connection with the natural world around us. #SwedishNature #Friluftsliv #Allemansrätten #OutdoorLiving #NatureConnection #SwedishCulture #SustainableLiving #EnvironmentalAwareness #NordicLifestyle #NatureLover

I have led travel courses over the past 15 years and have guided students in Japan, China, the UK, Jamaica, Ghana, Sierra Leone. Most recently, I travelled with 17 students and faculty from Lawrence University to The Gambia. People often ask me what it is that my students do during a Field Experience travel class. This video about Lawrence students in The Gambia shares the story of the this unique kind of global travel experience. #ExploretheWorld #globaleducation #Gambia https://lnkd.in/gcvqKTj8

28th Oct 2009 - The day I went through a gateway moving to Sweden from England. I was born in Nigeria, moved to the UK when I was 5 years old, then moved to Sweden with a degree in one hand and a plane ticket in the other 😊 I can reflect fondly and proudly on what I have managed to achieve here over 15 years. So, here are a few highlights: 😁 I taught and mentored countless children and young adults in Gothenburg and Stockholm (and even a few teachers 😉) 🏠 bought a house 🇸🇪 managed to intensively learn fluent Swedish on a flex course in under a year 📖💻 attained a master’s degree in Information Systems 📈 made some smart and strategic investments Whilst it has definitely not all been positive or straightforward, I have been able to learn a great deal about lifestyle, culture and adaptability, often balancing and seeing things in a way that others struggle to. ❓ People often ask: which is better, England or Sweden? They seldom ask about Nigeria coincidentally; it speaks volumes about global awareness and how perceptions can vary. Sweden's parental leave system is admirable, whilst other areas leave much to be desired. I have biked back and forth to work in the winter, so let’s not talk about the weather. Simple answer: A close to “perfect” place would likely be a blend of many great ideas from many cultures; a hybrid, free from the limits culture sometimes imposes. 💪🏾 I will continue to use my experiences and skills in a positive way to shape my understanding and decision making. When people are struggling to find ideas, they know I have many that are plausible. I have a broad skill set that I’m always ready to share. Come and find me! It will always be of the utmost importance for me to work hard to help make a difference whilst also being honest and ethical, irregardless of where I find myself. What will the next chapter bring? Stay tuned!
