It's happening – I’m working on a project to bring to life something I’ve talked about for years! My career has been focused on using education research to build more impactful learning experiences. I’ve loved helping teams and organizations create a compelling vision for an educational experience, backed by a theoretical grounding in how people learn. “Self-regulated learning” (SRL) is an area where it feels like the real-world impact has never lived up to the strength of the research, which has found that effective learning is often accompanied by specific kinds of activities, which create a "virtuous cycle": 1) Plan 2) Do, while Monitoring 3) Reflect This is, generally, what effective students figure out and find ways to do that work for them, while struggling students struggle to implement. The good news is that, across hundreds of studies (and the meta-analyses that summarize them), training programs that teach students this model and strategies to implement it have been shown to make a positive impact. But, these programs are custom-built by academics. They haven’t been built in ways that can scale, and the EdTech tools students might use to implement this SRL cycle remain scattered and uneven. Many folks I’ve worked with over the years have heard me talk about how new tools should be developed to provide those kinds of supports for students. When I reconnected with Melissa Patchan and learned about her work teaching an evidence-based student success course, my passion for this idea was rekindled. We created a company, ZenStudy.co, and wrote an SBIR application laying out our vision for a new educational technology, grounded in research, to help equip more students with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to achieve academic success with less stress. To our great surprise, we were selected, and are now hard at work to make ZenStudy a reality! If this is a mission that resonates with you, or you just want to follow along as a couple of cognitive scientists figure out how to launch a new EdTech tool, please follow me, Melissa Patchan and ZenStudy.co. Sign up for our mailing list at zenstudy.co. And feel free to reach out! Look forward to keeping you updated on our journey!

Have you ever considered the importance of... case studies for successful online education programs? They are actually really important, if not mandatory, because case studies are vital in online education as they provide real-world examples, showcasing the value of the programs. This leads to giving more visibility to your program as well as fostering trust in your expertise and what you have to offer. Moreover, case studies foster a deeper understanding of the subject matter and promote active learning. Incorporating case studies into your online education programs not only enriches the learning experience but also prepares students for real-life challenges in their professional careers. #OnlineEducation #CaseStudies #EdTech #StudentEngagement #RealWorldLearning #CriticalThinking #DigitalLearning #EducationInnovation #ActiveLearning #ProfessionalDevelopment
