The State of the Global Workplace Report 2024 was published last week and it spotlights in just how bad shape UK workplaces are when it comes to employee engagement and thriving cultures. According to the data, only 10% of employees are engaged (putting us below global and european levels), meaning 90% of people are either not engaged or actively disengaged in the UK workforce. Not only that, only 48% of employees report that they feel like they are ’thriving in life’ which puts the UK at only 15th in Europe in this category, a fall of three places since the previous report in 2023. One in five UK employees report that they are lonely, with people who are fully remote reporting higher levels of loneliness than this who work full time on-site, but the good news is that there is a positive outlook on the job market which will drive employees to find a new role which better aligns with their values and needs. Though it makes for stark reading, this isn’t all doom and gloom. This report highlights that when organisations get it right, an engaged workforce positively relates to a whole range of organisational outcomes and performance indicators. This report should serve as a catalyst for leaders to look at where they can take considered and consistent steps to improve company culture and engagement, without using popular solutions like wellness apps or stress management training as a crutch, rather than facing the issue head on with a positive and solution focused attitude. Have you read the report? What are your thoughts? 🤔 We know that reports like this can be intimidating, and so rather than try and unpick the data all at once, we’ll be sharing our thoughts on different stats and what it means for our workforces over the next few weeks. https://lnkd.in/dkbbCUT #workplaces #workplaceculture #thriving #team #people #BritishBusiness
