📚 The buses at Aspen School District carry precious cargo: 1,400 students on their way to and from school, field trips, sports, and overnight learning experiences sometimes hours away over mountainous terrain and inclement weather. It's a tough job for Reghan Mahaffey, director of transportation, and that's why she chose Motive to keep students and staff safe, while maximizing taxpayer dollars. “Now I have one solution to handle telematics, driver coaching, video and maintenance,” said Mahaffey. "Motive’s in-cab alerts have also led to fewer instances of speeding and close following distances, enhancing the safety of both drivers, students, and the community." High visibility traffic enforcement combined with public outreach and education can reduce the dangerous driving behaviors that are all too commonplace on our roads. A new study from the Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program finds that “all of the HVE campaign studies showed positive impacts in the metrics evaluated.” This includes reductions in drunk driving crashes and deaths, increases in seat belt use, less cell phone use while driving and fewer pedestrian crashes. The report also provides four frameworks that agencies can use to evaluate and improve their campaigns. The electrification transition is accelerating and is irreversible.

Pasadena's police just went all-electric! Their Model Y fleet of cop cars can accelerate to 60mph in 4.8 seconds, no idling car exhaust (1/2 to 1 gallon of gas per hour when idling!) https://lnkd.in/g-Xy7AXX

See video below! CBS News Detroit and #RayTownship Fire Chief @Mark Hoskin alongside Brock Aun from HAAS Alert, shared a first-hand experience that captures the reality of many #firstresponders today. Driver’s lack of awareness of oncoming emergency vehicles slows down first-responders. As Chief Hoskin put it, “cars today are so sound proof and people are living in their own world in their cars.” In-vehicle #digitalalerts are a no-brainer when it comes to paving the way for safer roads - and kudos to Stellantis leading the way with our nation's first responders ⚡ Not only is Stellantis the leading government fleet manufacturer of first responder vehicles, but they have pioneered the next generation of roadway safety alongside HAAS Alert with #SafetyCloud ® #digitalalerting. Lots more work to do for eliminating roadway deaths - but awareness to the work being done across the country is a major piece of the puzzle... https://lnkd.in/gBXsHZCp

#NSRIFellow Dr. Cody Stolle appeared on CBS News to discuss research from the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility (MwRSF) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Via the article: Researchers at the University of Nebraska are testing how U.S. infrastructure matches up to EVs. They crashed a 7,000-pound electric pickup — weighing 2,000 pounds more than a gas-powered pickup — at 62 mph into concrete barriers commonly used as freeway medians. The barriers contained the collision, but chunks of concrete were sent flying, and several of the 5,000-pound barriers were pushed back 10 feet — 50% more than normal. "Unfortunately, these guardrail systems, which have performed very well with gasoline vehicles historically, do not appear to be containing electric vehicles when impacting the similar types of conditions," said Cody Stolle, a University of Nebraska associate professor who has been studying the issue. Nebraska Republican U.S. Senator Deb Fischer Fischer said there has to be a greater awareness regarding the current standards for guardrails and barriers to encourage further research. "It was eye-opening. There was a lot of damage. And again, if there would've been vehicles on the other side of that barrier, we would've seen a severe accident," said Fischer. An innovative idea from 1927... 👍🏽 Replace lots of carbon emitting personal cars with shared mobility. If we are to tackle climate change, poor air quality, congestion, noise pollution we need to embrace public transport. Energy Saving Trust #netzero #publictransport
