Scaling a nascent industry like Direct Air Capture feels like solving a big puzzle. You need to make all the pieces (customers, investors, suppliers, etc.) fit together to achieve the ambitious growth required for net zero. As we‘re looking to deploy Project Dawn with a capacity of 20,000 tCO2/year in 2026, we really see the need for true pioneers as partners. That’s why we were excited to welcome the Breakthrough Energy team around Ashley and Francisco to our facilities in Ismaning this week. The Breakthrough Catalyst program (link in comments) is one of the few initiatives taking the lead on FOAK financing. They support the most promising technologies in this crucial step of scaling up from pilot stage to commercial readiness. We gave them a tour around our lab and showcased our Hydrolyzer stacks and absorber modules – the heart and lung of our DAC system. And we talked about the challenges and opportunities of this next step in scaling our technology to an impactful scale. Thanks to UnternehmerTUM Philipp Gerbert, Lars Eiermann, for making this valuable exchange possible. Phlair. Enabling a carbon-negative future.

It's time to reintroduce you to Russell Goldfarbmuren, our CTO and co-founder at Rebound Technologies. A visionary inventor with a knack for turning seemingly simple ideas into game-changing solutions. Russell's journey is anything but conventional. In 2011, when solar power was still twice as expensive as fossil fuels and energy storage held little value, Russell made what many would consider a questionable move. He walked away from a $4M ARPAe grant he had just won to develop cutting-edge solar thermal power plants to... make ice. 🧊 Why ice? Because Russell understood something fundamental: success in the cleantech space isn't about chasing dazzling technologies, it's about solving real customer needs. Under Russell's leadership, Rebound has developed IcePoint - a cooling technology that's revolutionizing the industry with: ✅ Paybacks less than 4 years without incentives ✅ 80% lower cost than Li-ion batteries ✅ 50% better levelized cost of storage than pumped hydro But Russell's impact goes beyond just inventing cool tech (pun intended). He's: 🚀 Managed our development team from prototyping to commercial launch 🧠 Developed an international IP strategy with over 32 issued patents 💰 Helped raise over $10M in funding Russell's approach? Above all else, solve a critical customer pain point (and spoiler, reducing energy costs is rarely a critical customer pain point). By focusing on real-world needs in niche markets like cold storage and wash-down recovery, Rebound has positioned itself to lead the charge as energy storage becomes increasingly vital. In Russell's own words: "We have always been 100% customer focused." It's this mindset that sets Rebound apart and drives our innovation. It’s also why we can get energy storage onto the grid at a reasonable payback. We're thrilled to have Russell at the helm of our technology efforts. His vision, expertise, and unwavering commitment to solving real problems are the engines driving Rebound Technologies. Stay tuned for more insights from Russell and the rest of our team as we continue to revolutionize industrial cooling and energy storage! ❄️ #MeetTheTeam #ReboundTechnologies #TeamSpotlight #ChillWithRebound #OurPeople

🤝🔋 At Riverse, we pride ourselves on the transparency and collaboration we bring to every new methodology we add to our platform. Here’s the latest on a new, first-of-its-kind methodology (coming soon): Currently, we are conducting a 30-day public consultation on our new battery second-life methodology. This consultation is part of how we promote transparency and collaboration in methodological development. *Why conduct these consultations?* Getting feedback from our ecosystem is one of the most important ways to improve any given methodology, and the consultation also makes the design and release of new methodologies collaborative, which helps build trust. For example, one specific piece of feedback and input we received included: “...I would suggest [adding] repurposing and remanufacturing to the scope of the methodology. Those two activities are defined in the EU regulation 2023/1542 concerning batteries and waste batteries.” This is the type of feedback we integrate to ensure our methodologies are as comprehensive and effective as possible, especially taking into account how complex the second-life battery application landscape is. There are stakeholders with significant industry expertise whose perspective helps make the final methodology maximally productive for the ecosystem. *Why else this consultation was extra important* Offering time for experts in industrial battery applications and the industry to provide input is particularly important in this case, as this methodology is one of the world’s first for second-life battery applications. As battery deployment—whether in EVs or on power grids—accelerates globally, the volume of systems is scaling rapidly. That’s good news for the energy transition and also means there will be significant opportunities to repurpose batteries in the near future. While the battery reuse ecosystem grows, there are already stellar examples of EV batteries being reused on power grids or batteries being recycled for their mineral and metal content. We’re confident that creating this methodology—and taking the time to do it transparently and collaboratively—will accelerate this work even further.'' If you'd like to participate and provide feedback, let us know by commenting! *We don’t do it alone* We developed this methodology with support from Kees Wielenga (Ffact) and Alexandre Borde (Cibola Partners), as well as with funding from the EU Green Advisory Service for Sustainable Investments Support program. Many thanks to all of them! Onwards and upwards 📈 #carboncredits #batteryrecycling #batteries
