𝗘𝗜𝗖 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: 𝗔 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🚀 Some launches feel almost surreal, and today is one of those. For the first time in four years, we’ve adopted the 𝗘𝗜𝗖 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 in record time – end of October! It’s a testament to unprecedented cooperation across Commission services, coordination at neuralgic points, and a shared sense of urgency to empower Europe’s most innovative ventures. The EIC's funding schemes continue to evolve to meet the needs of Europe’s innovators: 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 are here, each focused on a crucial stage of development. This year, Pathfinder and Accelerator introduce new Challenges that reflect the cutting edge, just as every year. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲? Well it has a name... 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺, 𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗣 On February 29, 2024, the Commission put forward a bold new regulation establishing the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). The message here was clear: "𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆!" The new EIC STEP Call is an immediate answer to Draghi’s report and direction, directly addressing Europe’s need for a scale-up platform that bridges the funding gap for strategic technologies. EIC appeared as an excellent "host" of this new important initiative. The journey here was intense, with pivotal moments that stand out. We had to provide a response to a clear call from the ecosystem: bridge the gap for companies scaling at the cutting edge of tech. Just a few months later, the EIC presents its first EIC STEP call, enabling 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 €𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 to catalyze 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 €𝟱𝟬–𝟭𝟱𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘇𝘆? 𝗡𝗼. 𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀! We listened to Europe’s innovators and the growth imperatives they’re up against. Filling this gap isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity if we want European companies to set the pace globally. Behind the scenes, there’s been incredible teamwork – people from every level and corner of the EIC working together to make this ambitious vision a reality. We’ve aimed high, knowing that every bold move here supports the next game-changing innovation out there. Happy to announce DT Launch Pad "European Deep Tech Commercialization Trajectory Report". It identifies three critical stages - Pre-incubation, Incubation, and Acceleration, each needing targeted support like mentorship, legal guidance, and funding. In it, we outline actionable steps to boost commercialization and create stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government. Across, seven national reports we offer in-depth insights into the opportunities, challenges, and support needed for Deep Tech commercialization in Austria, Finland, France, Ireland, Slovenia, The Netherlands, and Turkey. They provide a closer look at the unique trajectories and incubation needs of Deep Tech ventures in each of our partner regions.    Our Deep Tech Entrepreneurs Needs Analysis examines the critical skills and competencies required for the successful commercialisation of Deep Tech innovations. 🌟 14+ m€ to celebrate the first year at Alice & Bob ! 🌟 What a remarkable journey it's been since I joined Alice & Bob a year ago! Today, I'm thrilled to share a milestone that’s not only a personal achievement but a landmark for the company: the largest quantum #research grant ever awarded by the Bpifrance. This €14+ million grant is a testament to the excellent #innovation we are pursuing in Alice & Bob and the French commitment to supporting companies pushing the boundaries of technology. Time to reflect: - I had a lot of fun building this ambitious #research project. It's not just about developing groundbreaking qubit designs and enhancing manufacturing processes; it's about accelerating the transition from research to product. Exactly the kind of pioneering work that drives me – turning complex challenges into trailblazing solutions. - I am particularly proud of yet another example of how #deeptech startup can leverage their excellence. It perfectly aligns with our strategic goals and places us at the forefront of global tech innovation. One of the biggest challenge of #innovation in #deeptech is alignment. It is easy to lose yourself in novel side-projects when you come from research. A deeptech startup needs to stay #focus. This project does exactly that. - I knew that joining Alice & Bob and the field of #quantum #computing was going to be a challenge of learning and I'm happy to look back and see the path traveled. Kuddos to the whole team for their strong support, and the community is very friendly and fun. But I have to say that this jump is something that I am particularly proud of: it confirms my appeal for continuous growth and innovation – qualities I believe are essential in today's dynamic tech landscape. Thank you to Max ( Masoud ) Mirgoli and team for the warm welcome to #ITFworld2024. It was a pleasure discussing #deeptech with Paul Boudre and Ann Mettler, facilitated by Peter Vanbekbergen. Insights were shared on European strengths, challenges, and growth opportunities for deep tech startups. Europe has what it takes to become a global hub for Deep Tech excellence. Some of the most valuable companies in Europe have spun out from academia - BioNTech SE, Climeworks, Darktrace, and Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Scaling in deep tech requires patient capital, a robust ecosystem, and strategic partners for go-to-market. Global ambition is key as it is a winner-take-all game for startups building critical infrastructure. Levers to unlock the potential for deep tech in Europe include: ‣ Strengthening talent/excellence clusters ‣ Harmonizing spinout terms and reduce bureaucracy ‣ Encouraging more entrepreneurs to move into deep tech ‣ Increasing LP base and institutional investors participation ‣ Shifting government and corporations to become customers ‣ Reviewing innovation regulations I welcome your thoughts and more conversations offline.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) has just approved €1.4 billion to support European deep tech research and high-potential #startups next year. 🟣The EIC Work Programme 2025 is built around three main #funding schemes: 1️⃣ EIC Pathfinder - €262 million for multi-disciplinary research teams to undertake visionary early-stage technology research and development with the potential to lead to technology breakthroughs (grants up to €4 million). 2️⃣ EIC Transition - €98 million to turn research results into innovation opportunities, following up on results generated by EIC Pathfinder, European Research Council Proof of Concept and Horizon Europe Pillar 2 (societal challenges) collaborative projects (grants up to €2.5 million). 3️⃣ EIC Accelerator - €634 million for start-ups and SMEs to develop, commercialise and scale up innovations with the potential to create new markets or disrupt existing ones (grants below €2.5 million, investments from €500 000 to €10 million).
