Fantastic to see this article published in the Irish Probation Journal. It provides information on the development and plans of the CORD (Criminal justice Open Research Dialogue) Partnership. This ‘researcher-policymaker-practitioner partnership’ (R3P) was initially established through a project funded by Ireland’s National Open Research Forum (NORF) and led by the wonderfully collaborative Ian Marder. The CORD partnership exists to support positive social change by embedding a culture of interdisciplinary open research in criminal justice in Ireland and I'm delighted to be a part of it!
Really happy to see this article out in the Irish Probation Journal! With 58 authors from 32 organisations (!) we outline the purpose, principles and research priorities of the CORD Partnership - the new, national research partnership that seeks to embed a culture of interdisciplinary open research in criminal justice in Ireland. We developed these ideas using restorative practices and design thinking, and we wrote the article using an open authorship process. Co-authors include Patrice Mccormack Threase Finnegan-Kessie Jennifer Schweppe Lynsey Black Fionnuala Brennan Tríona Kenny, MA Katharina Kurz Emeline Le Prince Marian Quinn Ruairí Weiner Yvonne Daly Darragh McCashin Kevin Wozniak, Ph.D. Colette Barry Ciara Bracken-Roche, PhD, MA, BSc Avril Brandon, PhD Policing Authority Maria Cleary Dr. Geraldine Cleere Catherine Comiskey Alan Cusack Karl Ducque Niamh Flanagan Joe Garrihy Diarmuid Griffin Dr Ciara Guiney Helen Hall Amanda Haynes The Probation Service Sharron Kelliher Enda Kelly Dympna Kenny Noreen Lacey PhD, CAPM Susan Leahy Niamh McCormack Dr. Lucy Michael John F. Very honoured to be a co-author of this article in the Irish Probation Journal alongside Ian Marder and other members of the Criminal justice Open Research Dialogue (CORD) Partnership! The partnership exists to support positive social change by embedding a culture of open research in criminal justice in Ireland. The authors are among many research, criminal justice and community-sector professionals. You can read more, and access the article here: https://lnkd.in/es2YrzBS The CORD Partnership also co-created 'An Agenda for the CORD Partnership 2025-2026' to progress the partnership's goals over the next few years. The agenda outlines five action areas to embed a culture of open research in Irish criminal justice. You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/ev8ttfJq School of Law and Criminology Maynooth University

Action research is a form of inquiry that emphasizes collaboration between researchers and practitioners to solve real-world problems. It is collaborative, iterative, solution-focused, and timely. It elevates the importance of community voice and agency in practices, public discourse, and policymaking in ways that can transform the criminal legal system. The goal of the Reducing Revocations Challenge is to help counties better understand the gaps in their probation practices through researcher-practitioner partnerships. We intentionally chose the Action Research model to maximize the relevance and applicability of research to conditions on the ground, and ensure practical solutions that could drive real change. On our blog, Daphne Moraga and Victoria Lawson explain how we did it, and highlight some of the ways these counties are applying their work. Read more: https://bit.ly/4fheCWN

Every child deserves a chance to grow and succeed. The high absenteeism among probation officers in L.A. County’s juvenile halls highlights a need for systemic reform. By focusing on healing-centered, community-based programs, we can improve outcomes for young people. Read our recent blog post to learn more about how we can seize this opportunity for transformation. https://buff.ly/3AncrRr
