In January 2024, the American Red Cross declared a national emergency due to the shortage of blood. They're seeing the lowest number of people giving blood in the last 20 years. O positive is the most common blood type, and O negative is the universal blood type. O negative is the first blood type to run out during a shortage. The U.S. needs approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells, 5,000 units of platelets, and 6,500 units of plasma every day. Only about 3% of eligible people donate blood each year

Sepsis is a life-threatening blood stream infection that unfortunately impacts far too many people, yet an estimated 37% of U.S. adults have never heard of the condition. In honor of Sepsis Awareness Month, this Wednesday, the Selux team is hosting a one-mile walk around the Boston area. Alongside the event, we are showing our support to the cause by raising money that will provide essential education, support, and advocacy to healthcare professionals, the general public, and those affected by the medical emergency.
