An « out of the box thinking » exercise for the chemical community interested in catalysis for the ecological transition. Read it before writing the introduction of your next paper!
Our transdiciplinary paper "An anthropocene-framed transdisciplinary dialog at the chemistry-energy nexus" is out in Chemical Science. You can check it out at: https://lnkd.in/drgtAqUB Really happy to see the outcome of this project, I had a great time working on this with a group of passionate and expert co-authors across several discplines. Looking forward to see what the future holds and to take the next steps in improving and widening our approach and practice of science.

A recent publication, with lead author Zhanar Zhakiyeva, PhD, focuses on an experiment looking at the hydrated phases inside cement that are key to its strength. Zhanar wrote a science highlight for our website, saying: “Neutrons are ideal for studying water dynamics because of the large scattering cross section of hydrogen." To find out more, read the full piece on our website: https://lnkd.in/e28NUG5i

Quality and quantity both matters. Both are complimentary to each other. Discussing long may be good for thought but at the end of the number also matters.

Citing his "groundbreaking work in innovative materials for carbon capture, energy storage and water harvesting,” the Taiwan-based Tang Foundation has awarded its 2024 Tang Prize in Sustainable Development to Atoco founder Prof. Omar Yaghi. Founded by renowned construction engineer Dr. Samuel Yen-Liang Yin in 2012, the Tang Prize recognizes extraordinary achievements in the fields of Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology, and Rule of Law. The prize, says the Tang Foundation, is intended "to gather the wisdom mankind needs to tackle the crises unique to the 21st century.” In the case of Prof. Yaghi, such wisdom centers on his pioneering work in reticular chemistry—a new way of making materials by stitching organic and inorganic units into extraordinarily porous yet robust metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs). These frameworks can be manipulated with atomic precision to perform specific tasks such as selectively capturing carbon dioxide from flue gases and the atmosphere, dramatically increasing the storage volumes of gases such as methane and hydrogen, and harvesting potable water from desert air.
