I had the privilege of taking the stage as a guest speaker at the prestigious International Conference of Community Education (ICCE 2nd), held on Wednesday, 18 December 2024. The conference, themed "Integration of Entrepreneurship and Technology in Community Education Transformation," provided a platform for experts to share insights and ideas on the intersection of community education, entrepreneurship, and technology. My presentation, titled "Inclusive Community Education: Bridging the Digital and Entrepreneurial Divide," delved into the concept of inclusive community education and its potential to bridge the gaps in digital and entrepreneurial access. I began by defining inclusive community education and explaining its significance in addressing the disparities in access to digital technologies and entrepreneurial opportunities. I emphasized the importance of bridging these gaps, highlighting the benefits that inclusive community education can bring to individuals, communities, and society as a whole. Throughout my presentation, I discussed the benefits and strategies for implementing inclusive community education, providing a clear example of how this approach can be applied in practice. I drew on the work of an organization run by Adejoke O. , which has made significant strides in promoting the inclusion of persons with hearing impairments in community life in Nigeria. This example served as a powerful illustration of the impact that inclusive community education can have in bridging the digital and entrepreneurial divide. However, I also acknowledged the challenges and limitations that exist in bridging these gaps. I identified some of the key obstacles that must be overcome, including issues of accessibility, affordability, and cultural relevance. By acknowledging these challenges, I hoped to provide a more nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in implementing inclusive community education. In conclusion, I offered a set of recommendations for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders to consider in their efforts to promote inclusive community education. By working together to address the digital and entrepreneurial divide, I believe that we can create more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous communities for all. #LinkedIn #unique #university #students

This week, we’re joining global education leaders at the USAID #GlobalEducationConference, sharing how our initiatives are building resilient educational systems that cater to all learners and move us towards an inclusive, sustainable future in education. 🔶 Transforming lives in Guatemala: Today, we spotlighted the Puentes Project, which is equipping Guatemalan youth self-determined futures. This initiative stands as a beacon of hope and innovation, aiming to empower young individuals aged 15-29 by equipping them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to forge a path toward improved income opportunities and a self-determined future. 🔶 The Challenge: In regions marred by poverty, violence, and limited access to education, the youth unemployment rate soars, especially among those living in the Western Highlands, Alta Verapaz, and Guatemala City. The barriers are even more formidable for females and indigenous youth, who face lower school attendance rates and scarce economic opportunities. 🔶 Our Approach: The Puentes Project leverages education as a catalyst for change, offering comprehensive support that encompasses vocational and technical training, alternative education, and entrepreneurship. This holistic strategy is designed not just to provide immediate relief but to instigate generational cycles of prosperity and well-being. 🔶 Impact and Innovation: To date, the project has heralded remarkable successes: ◾ Over 32,848 participants have crafted life plans through the Diplomado Emprender con Éxito. ◾ Vocational and technical training has been provided to 16,905 youths, paving the way for gainful employment and entrepreneurship. ◾ We've challenged traditional norms and opened new avenues for participation, leadership, and community engagement among youth. The Puentes Project is more than an education initiative; it's a movement towards youth empowerment, societal transformation, and sustainable development. Supporting Creativity and Innovation of an African Child: A Key to Unlocking Potential Creativity and innovation are essential elements for the growth and development of any society. They drive progress, open new horizons, and bring about positive change. However, when it comes to Africa, these elements are often overlooked and undervalued, especially in the case of children. The education system in many African countries focuses on rote learning and memorization, leaving little room for creativity and innovation. As a result, many African children are unable to tap into their full potential and contribute to the growth of their communities and countries. It is crucial to understand that supporting creativity and innovation of African children is not just about providing them with the opportunity to express themselves artistically. It goes beyond that; it is about empowering them to think critically, solve problems, and come up with innovative solutions. Creativity is not limited to the arts; it is a mindset that can be applied to any field, be it science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. By nurturing this mindset in children, we are equipping them with the tools to become future leaders, innovators, and change-makers. One of the main challenges in supporting creativity and innovation of African children is the lack of resources and opportunities. Many schools in Africa do not have the necessary materials and tools to encourage creativity and innovation. This is where organizations and individuals can step in to bridge the gap. By providing resources such as art supplies, technology, and mentorship programs, we can help unlock the creative potential of African children. #childrenseducation #childrenintechnology

Remember why you started - Does it really matter? My passion for education wasn't discovered overnight; it was gradual and can be traced back to my experience during my service year. As a corps member, I struggled with securing a primary placement. My initial reluctance to serve in a school was overturned by another corps member, who recommended a low-income private school. Despite being hesitant, I was open-minded and I agreed to give it a try. Upon arriving at the school, I stated some terms regarding the class I would teach, and I opted for the upper basic class. Just a month into my stay, I found myself looking forward to meeting the pupils everyday. I began to explore ways to make each day count for the learners, introducing new learning experiences. It was during this period that I learned about Teach For Nigeria, but I couldn't apply because the opening was for existing teachers. Fast forward to after the conclusion of my service year, I was employed in an international school for children from high-income families. At the time, I was also improving my capacity at various levels and enrolled in a Postgraduate Diploma in Education program. However, I wanted more in terms of supporting children who could not access the facilities available in the school. That desire led me to apply for the Teach For Nigeria fellowship, and, as they say, the story continues. With Teach For Nigeria, I found a platform to contribute meaningfully to ending educational inequity in Nigeria. I was committed to instilling the belief in children from low-income communities that they could achieve more than they ever thought possible, and to affirming that quality education shouldn't be negotiable. So, does it really matter why you started? Yes, it does, because I remind myself of this whenever I feel like quitting. Abdullah AbdulRahman © 2024 Joshua Obazeiki JOSHUA A.
