Your time is important ⏳ Running a business takes a lot of time. You can often work from the early hours to late at night – so when it comes to writing your award entry, you need to factor in the time it takes – but trust us, it’s worth it. First of all, you want to avoid rushing. You want to put your best foot forward so make sure that you are leaving adequate time to gather evidence, write your entry, and get it double, and triple-checked before pressing enter. This means that writing and entering an award on the day isn’t advised (although we’re sure it’s worked for some people.) Rushing can lead to mistakes or leaving something key out of your submission. Remember, a lot of judges won’t take kindly to errors, and they certainly won’t know something unless you tell them about it, they’re not mind readers. So, you need to plan. Set aside half an hour to an hour a day to work on it (that’s not much, is it?) and make sure that you focus properly on it. Block out time if you need to, just make sure that for that time you’re concentrating fully on your award entry – it will be time well spent for the good of your business. It's time for another award winner, please be upstanding for Matt Antill - who scooped the Bid Excellence award (for the second time, we might add...!) 🎉It’s great to see you win an award Matt, could you tell us a bit about your nomination? We’ve started to see the impact of technology and AI in bidding. It’s going to play a critical role, although my Bid Excellence Award nomination had no reference to technology. I wanted to show the continued importance of people in the bid process; effective capture, rigorous qualification, running writing training with our SMEs, and being the catalyst and driver of winning deals and overall sales performance. I was delighted to win on the night. 🎉 How does it feel to win the Bid Excellence award? We’re naturally all competitive people in the bid world. Competing and winning against talented peers in the APMP community is highly rewarding. Winning an award helps with raising my internal profile within Virgin Media O2 Business too. I did find out at school parents' evening this week that my seven-year old had been telling the teacher and his class that ‘Daddy had won a trophy at work!' That makes it extra special. 🎉 What pearls of wisdom would you like to share? The nomination should be treated like a bid. Is there a compelling story behind it? What are the key messages to emphasise? Can it meet all the evaluation criteria? Is there evidence (qualitative and quantitative) to support it? Why Wouldn't You? It was the theme for the talk I shared last night at the YTM Why Awards. In it I shared the pros and cons of speaking about childhood trauma. These were once my arguments for staying quiet: The past is in the past, you can't change it so there's no point talking about it. I once believed the stuff that happens in childhood is irrelevant once reaching maturity as an adult. And that my loved ones would be upset or make a fuss if they knew what had happened to me. I honestly believed I was okay. Statistics on the Bravehearts website indicate that perpetrators get away with it more than 98% of the time. How do we turn this around? Make some noise! I believe that conversations about childhood sexual abuse are what's needed to disrupt the culture of silence that perpetuates the cycle of CSA. Because one in 3 women and one in 5 men experience CSA yet the societal stigma and taboo keep us believing its best to stay quiet. On a personal level, I want to pave a path others can follow, because I've found, through owning my story, liberation, self-acceptance and a reconnection to my true and authentic self.
