No individual should ever have to endure the fear of violence or the threat of bombs falling upon their homes and communities. Equally important is the principle that no person should be used as a human shield. The exploitation of individuals in this manner not only violates their rights but also undermines the very fabric of our global society. As advocates for human rights, we must unite in our commitment to ensuring that every individual can live free from fear and violence. Together, let us strive to create a world where peace prevails, and every person's dignity is respected. Today is the International Day of Abolition of Slavery, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this significant event organized by the United Nations General Assembly. This day serves as a reminder of the brutal reality of slavery throughout history and the many forms it has taken in different societies. One of the most prominent and harrowing instances of slavery is the Transatlantic slave trade, which forcibly uprooted millions of Africans and subjected them to inhumane conditions for over 400 years. It is crucial that we remember these historical injustices and acknowledge the ongoing repercussions of such practices in today's world.
