After attending many #networkingevents, #paneldiscussions, and #pitchsessions, I've witnessed a profound shift in my #perspective. Initially, I used to be there to be #visible, but now I've become more intentional about absorbing the knowledge and content shared. Some speakers impress with their articulation, others with their experience, while some resonate deeply on a personal level. Then there's Bal Krishna Joshi Sir, or Bal Dai as he prefers, who uniquely embodies all these #qualities. Meeting him at the #USYC Orientation in early April was a major highlight. As a panelist discussing the #democratization of #AI for economic growth, Bal Sir left an impressive impact. Here are my three key takeaways from his conversation: 1. Embrace #GlobalCitizenship : The debate about whether young Nepalis should leave the country for better #opportunities is ongoing, with around 3,000 leaving daily and nearly 1 million last year. Bal Sir offered a refreshing perspective—be a global citizen. Travel widely and gain global experience, but also leverage the #digitalage to bring opportunities and #resources back home. (It might not seem directly related, but if you’re curious about how we’re making our small efforts to create opportunities right here in Nepal, check out our passion project Parth Student Ventures —where we’re helping young Nepali #studentfounders turn their #dreams into #reality!) 2. Value the Power of #Data and #KPIs: From my #experience of working with some #startups, I understand the struggles of setting meaningful KPIs and using data effectively. Bal Dai stressed that regardless of a business’s stage, integrating data and AI is essential. It’s about building strong habits and crafting strategies that truly work. 3. #SupportiveFamily as Cherry on Top: It was heartwarming to see his family proudly attending the panel discussion and celebrating his achievements with pride. Their support was evident and added a special touch to his presentation and confidence .

#IIT Wake UP - You may be losing out! Many (non-IITians) trying to get to supportive ears in incubation cells in various IITs have known first-hand how closed the system is. Funding is reserved for their own tribe, thank you very much. After all, haven't they proven they are the best, most brilliant minds? The once-venerated-giant has become fat and arrogant, too blinded by its own brilliance to see the Sun beyond their doors. This morning I spoke to a student in an unknown University in a Tier-2 city not many associate with higher education. We were talking about a machine they are building to handle one of the biggest pollution issues in the country in a brilliant, carbon-negative manner. Yet another team is building another nature-based solution to what is a massive issue internationally and could bring very healthy export revenue to India. Both these teams are well funded, because expensive machines need to be built. Both will share copyrights and commercial success with the University - while the risks are taken entirely by the educational institute. I felt overjoyed. Who needs formal R&D budget allocations or angel investors? These small universities are seeing that India is brimming with brilliant ideas. Just because a child lives in a small city and is the son of a farmer does not mean he cannot grasp complex science. These kids are talking BIG ideas. They are getting the space and the support to play, experiment, tweak and are coming up with much-needed practical applications in the Sustainable space - which I believe will be the highest-growth space in the next 3 decades. Meanwhile the more established names can watch these smaller institutions become the next big things.
