We are now more than halfway through NACWG Phase Two and have been reflecting on how much progress has been made. But our continuous improvement approach means that we’re continually learning about what’s working and what we need to adapt. Research Scotland were commissioned to deliver an independent evaluation, identifying key learning points and where improvements can be made. Find out more about the key findings and how we’ll be using these to continue to push for change over on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eEycfS9b #NACWG #GenerationEqual #GenderEquality #IndependentEvaluation

According to National College Attainment Network (NCAN), 2024-25 FAFSA completion rates for HS seniors are down 40% compared to this time last year in 2023. The U.S. Dept. of Education, Federal Student Aid an Office of the U.S. Department of Education, Congress and The White House need to take a more aggressive action to address this FAFSA completion crisis, which will have knock-on effects on postsecondary enrollment, retention, and higher ed institution revenues. Since the 2020 pandemic and our economic recession, millions of students have decided to forgo higher education or were forced to stop-out due to financial concerns. This enrollment crisis impacts all Americans as we are losing a generation of brilliant minds who could have become our next doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants, pilots, civic leaders, lawyers, entrepreneurs, tech innovation leaders and much more. Equitable access to higher education should never be a partisan issue. A nation that does not prioritize the education of its citizens is morally bankrupt. Every legislator and government official bears responsibility for failing the American people, especially our youth and young adults, in accessing critical funding for the pursuit of higher education. May I propose a better solution to increase FAFSA submission rates? Publicly apologize to the American people on national TV and gift $5k to every student who enrolls/matriculates for Fall 2024. Disburse the funds as direct payments to students like HEERF was administered, after each college's add/drop deadline. Watch the FAFSA completion rates jump up drastically when you pair an apology with financial restitution. How about an even more audacious proposal? Take the steps named above AND replace all Federal Direct Loans (except Parent PLUS) for 2024-25 with a one-time grant of the same value for every student. It's unconscionable to have students take loans this year when our government failed to do its job. #FAFSA #FAFSAFastBreak #CollegeAdmissions #FinancialAid #HigherEducation

https://lnkd.in/g3D6pWhv This is the NSF response to the NY Times article recently published highlighting SWCC TBI due to fast boat wave slamming, which causes 3600 potential sub-concussive impacts per hour, or 28,000 impacts in 8 hours of high-speed transit. Having spent over a year communicating with Dave Phillips, I can tell you he interviewed over a dozen SWCCs and some spouses of deceased SWCC operators. We all told him our personal accounts of what we experienced in the SWCC community on fast boats. We also told him personal accounts of the retired community and how we all suffer from TBI and a long list of other issues related to TBI, spinal and orthopedic injuries. There are a couple spinoffs in the article that are wrong. But the story is on point. SWCC boats go fast, slam into waves repeatedly every second, and cause sub-concussive impacts. These cumulative impacts cause repetitive mTBI, which eventually causes long-term effects that are challenging to navigate. There have been several SWCC operators committing suicide since the early 90s, probably ten or so. There are maybe 4000 SWCC operators active or retired/former alive today. 10 out of 4000 is a small number, so to say we all are killing ourselves is not correct. However, I did a survey with 300 former SWCC, and just under 30% admitted to having suicidal ideation. Several admitted they lied on the survey on the phone, and said they had thought about suicide often. So it is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. These are facts. As SWCC operators, we are a 100% volunteer force, meaning that we all choose to do the job that we do. And the question has been posed to many of us, would you still be a SWCC, knowing what you know now about fast boat wave slamming and how it causes TBI. All of us said yes we would. This rebuttal talks about the article making us victims; we are not victims. Although the 100plus g-forces were discovered back in the 90s during some research, that quickly went away. So, there were people in NSW back in the 90s aware of the potential dangers of NSW fast boats and what they would do to the human body. But I guess as long as organizations in the limelight can say all is good, I guess it is. My takeaway from this rebuttal is they make it obvious there is something to cover up, and they say, without saying, that the boats destroy the human body. One of the guys in this video has both retinas detached from being an SWCC operator, that alone speaks volumes about the severity of injury from fast boats, wave slamming, and all the other things we do as SWCC. As for saying we are not talking about resources, I started an online SWCC TBI group with over 300 members. We talk about the treatments available and the many different TBI clinics. I personally helped ensure 100 former SWCCs went to the Tulane TBI clinic to get diagnosed and treated. We, as a community, are discussing TBI among ourselves and helping each other out.
