Welcome news! As of July 1st 2025, the rabbit pyrogenicity test will no longer be required in 57 chapters of the European Pharmacopoeia. It will be replaced by the animal-free Monocyte Activation Test (MAT)—a validated, human-relevant, and more sensitive method. We thank all experts and stakeholders whose tireless efforts led to this milestone, advancing both in vitro pyrogenicity testing and animal welfare. We will continue to promote similar changes globally via dedicated multidisciplinary stakeholder discussions. Studying the anti-inflammatory effect of extracellular vesicles derived from sheep milk: in this study, Bigboy Simbi, Ryan Pink, Louise Whatford and Charlotte Lawson at Royal Veterinary College & Oxford Brookes University sought to investigate the isolation of EVs from raw sheep milk and their potential impact on inflammatory responses in THP-1, a human monocyte cell line, in vitro https://lnkd.in/eQCQF5gr They used Vesi-Dye LMB-600 to stain these EVs, making them detectable by flow cytometric analysis. Their results indicated that similarly to cow's milk, sheep milk contains EVs that can impact human monocyte/macrophage responses, warranting further investigation into its potential benefits for human and non-human animal health #extracellularvesicles #exosomes #flowcytometry #inflammation #Vesiculab
