I'm so excited to be able to open up this "AI for Nonprofits 101" session to the public! Wednesday July 17 2pm ET. www.FCNY.org/aiwebinar The session is also great for teams of nonprofit colleagues who want some common language and understanding on AI. I'll write more about this soon - but finding safe and incremental ways to use AI is about equity and efficiency. AI helps staff of many different backgrounds elevate their contributions. And efficiency means doing more with less. Efficiency is necessary to fight staff burnout or to serve more clients, better, with the same sized grants and contracts. #EfficiencyIsSocialJustice
Following on the oversubscribed, in-person FCNY Nonprofits and AI Leadership Forum, we’re pleased to offer this supplementary webinar. The content here will be useful to anyone interested in getting a basic overview of AI tools like ChatGPT and learning how to try them out in productive ways at work. Our Session Lead is Rich Leimsider, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Fund. Rich was the coordinator of our AI Leadership Forum, and advises Fund Partner Projects on issues of strategy, fundraising, and board development. Register today: www.fcny.org/aiwebinar

With so much misinformation about vaping, vaccines and mental health, how can influencers incorporate accurate public health information in their stories and content? Science to People is using AI to mine vast amounts of academic research, making it to simple and easy for creators to access and incorporate verified science. With disinformation swirling and more people going to TikTok, Instagram and other platforms for public health information, the VeriSci.AI tool is a timely and much-needed solution. Keep up the great work Brinleigh Murphy-Reuter and Rajeshwari Subramanian!
We have been busy, busy over here at Science to People - finishing up the Fall term at Harvard University, applying for what feels like 1,000 accelerators (looking at you MassChallenge), grants (hello, Open Philanthropy!), and pitch competitions (consider us, Harvard Innovation Labs!), and taking meeting after meeting to introduce more folks to our work thanks to our increidble networks of advisors and mentors! As a part of this crazy application season, Rajeshwari and Brinleigh had to put together a little pitch video - check it out!

Last week I spent 4 days with other Catholic Founders, CEOs, and non-profit leaders at the SENT Ventures Summit in Forth Worth, TX with some amazing folks like Jeff Schiefelbein, Kevin Fitzpatrick, and Alex at Hallow. Thank you to John Cannon for your visionary leadership to make this conference and organization come to life. The theme of the conference was “Build Like a Saint!” If you want your business or organization to last 500+ years, you may want to consider emulating the strategies of saintly builders like St. Benedict (1500 years), St. Francis (800+ years), or St. Dominic (800+ years). One of my favorite messages from founders/CEOs at the conference was from Alex Jones, founder of the Hallow App. Essentially his message was “surrender to God” and entrust the results to Him and He will do amazing things that you could never do on your own. If you want to truly build like a saint with lasting joy and impact, you must surrender your company, organization, and ultimately your life to God. Come Holy Spirit! 📸Here are the six key characteristics of Saint Founders:

I’m a huge advocate of dedicating real time to annual planning. A good plan unlocks so many things for an organization (especially one that wants to grow without wasting time & money on the wrong things!) A good plan helps you: ✅ Hire the right people every time ✅ Raise money from the right people more easily ✅ Give your leadership team ownership of their work ✅ Focus on activities that really drive impact Growth without burning out isn’t magic. It’s just what happens when you have a clear, strong plan. 💪🏾 🚀 If you & your team want help nailing down your plan + hands on support implementing, apply to the Next Level Nonprofit Growth Accelerator https://lnkd.in/ev-ryD8e

Did you know we’re living in the Decade of Black Innovation? For the past few years, I’ve been a proud member of Black Innovation Alliance, an organization at the forefront of building the equitable economy we all deserve. As a member, I’ve had so many incredible opportunities to develop as a business leader, ecosystem builder, and innovator. Each year, BIA hosts an annual Sustainability Summit to engage and energize our members from around the world. This year, I had the privilege of vending during the opening reception and sharing more about my book, The Ghetto VC. I’m so proud to share this was the first time I was able to sell out of my inventory, and I’m so grateful to everyone who purchased a signed paperback. Before BIA, I felt very alone in doing the work that I’ve committed my life to. After joining, I’ve realized there are so many others like me doing the work, whether they get the recognition they deserve or not. If you’re an organization supporting Black innovators in your ecosystem, BIA is here to support you. If you’re a resource provider, funder, or government entity, please consider how you can become an accomplice in our mission. And of course, if you’re interested in leveraging startup investing as a means to combat gentrification and classism, check out my book here: https://theghetto.vc/ #startups #venturecapital #nonprofit
