I must say that it's high time for foundations to stop ignoring waste collection centers and start focusing on them. While it's commendable that they put the spotlight on recycling facilities, we cannot overlook the fact that every recycling facility is tied to a waste collection center that serves as a feeder. As a waste collector officer handling ten tons of waste every week in my locality, I feel that we are neglected and underappreciated. It's about time that waste collection centers are given the attention and funding they need. They should be heavily funded to acquire vehicles that can transport large waste from the sources to the centers. In addition, they should be given cash at hand to buy large waste, since households prefer to sell their waste to increase their earnings. I strongly believe that waste collection centers deserve more recognition for their important role in recycling. There's so much more to write on this issue, but I will leave it here. Through empowerment programs that foster behavioral change, solidarity, self-esteem, and economic growth, WBI collaborates closely with partners and the Tanzanian government. In pursuit of these goals, WBI is embarking on a significant initiative: establishing a Charcoal Briquette Production Business. This project aims to achieve three pivotal milestones: 1. Employment and Empowerment: By employing street youth in the production of charcoal briquettes, WBI provides them with opportunities for education, stable incomes, and a path towards organized lives. 2. Environmental Impact: The briquette production will convert local waste materials into clean-burning, affordable charcoal substitutes. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on traditional wood charcoal, which contributes to deforestation and soil degradation in Tanzania. 3. Economic Solution: In urban areas like Dar es Salaam, where cooking fuel costs are rising, charcoal briquettes offer a cost-effective alternative. Pre-accelerator phase for 'Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Program' (GGJAP) kicks off in Tunisia 🇹🇳 ♻️ This program is dedicated to help SMEs transform ecological challenges into innovative solutions, driving the growth of Tunisia's green economy; during the pre-accelerator phase, 28 SMEs addressed critical issues such as water scarcity, energy optimization, and waste management. The participating SMEs took part in interactive workshops that explored inventive solutions and covered topics such as business model innovation, financial and impact assessment, and more. The goal was to provide these innovators with the skills needed to present their ideas to the selection committee and move on to the next stage of the process. This program is initiated by UNDP and is in partnership with the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Addressing issues like agricultural efficiency, waste management and recovery, and promoting eco-tourism are critical focus areas for the participating companies in the Pre-Accelerator of the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator in Tunisia. Tackling these challenges is pivotal for sustainable growth. We have now launched the Pre-Accelerator of the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator (#GGJAP) in Tunisia, equipping participating companies with interactive materials on innovation mindset, business model innovation, ideation for green innovation, and perfecting their presentations. The Pre-Accelerator prepares small and medium-sized enterprises for the next phases of the Accelerator’s selection process by explaining the procedure and ensuring their readiness to present in front of the selection committee. Participating companies are working in diverse areas such as natural cosmetics, bacteriological analysis of agricultural products, organic fertilizer production, waste management and recovery, eco-friendly tourism, and renewable energies.
