Stat Legend started from a simple idea after a bad summer baseball season. Make youth sports more fun. We know youth sports cards contributes more fun. We see it when kids get excited to open Stat Legend packs or design their cards. What can you do to make youth sports more fun? Not more winning. Not stronger. Not faster. Not better. More fun.

This article is a perfect follow-up to my last post about the disparity in NCAA payouts to men’s and women’s basketball teams during March Madness.
The women’s college basketball tournament final drew more viewers than the men’s final for the first time in history.

The weekly women's sports record breaking moment. 14.2M viewers tuned in on ESPN for University of Iowa and University of Connecticut. This took down last week's Elite 8 record featuring the same Iowa and Caitlin Clark taking on Louisiana State University. More viewers than 2023 National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals and Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series among many other sporting events in the past 12 months. So that was Friday. The very next day saw a 17K strong, sell-out crowd in attendance for the open practice for the NCAA Finals featuring South Carolina Gamecocks and University of Iowa. The crowd was amazing and based on all the dancing and fun on the court by Coach of the Year Dawn Staley and their mascot Cocky, the NCAA missed an opportunity to make a full weekend of it with a concert or some type of women's basketball festival. Think about what University of Colorado Boulder and Coach Prime are doing with their Spring Game. Three years ago, NCAA didn't allow the women's event to use the moniker "March Madness" and didn't have a gym available for Final Four participants. There are still issues. Inconsistent 3-point lines and lodging far from game sites still shone a light that there is still room for growth, but the media coverage and star power has triumphed and pushed this event to new levels. ESPN signed a new deal for all NCAA Championships, excluding Men's Basketball Tournament and CFP Series for about $137M per year. While that deal doesn't kick in till next year, it is already looking like a bargain when streamers are paying $100M for one NFL game. BREAKING: Last night’s Iowa-UConn game averaged 14.2 million viewers on ESPN. That makes it the most-watched women’s college basketball game ever, handily beating the previous record that only lasted 4 days. It also means the game had more viewers than: • Any women's CBB game ever • The 2023 NBA Finals • The 2023 World Series • The 2023 Orange Bowl • The 2023 Big Ten Championship • The 2023 Cotton Bowl • The 2023 Pac-12 Championship • The 2023 Big-12 Championship • The 2023 ACC Championship • The 2023 Peach Bowl • Thursday Night Football • Every 2023 college football regular season game except Ohio State vs. Michigan Absolutely incredible. The Varsity 1. Could the National Basketball Association (NBA) sell four packages? It's still a long shot. While Warner Bros. Discovery has signaled that it could be interested in such a package, NBCUniversal has resisted the idea of carving up its package even further. 2. Why does WBD think it can use matching rights on Amazon's package? WBD’s dealmakers believe they have the ability to match any package that have games that are part of WBD’s current deal. 3. Is David Zaslav workshopping the talking points he’ll trot out if he loses the deal? Rather than highlighting matching rights during an appearance at a financial conference in New York, Zaz referenced WBD’s deals with the National Hockey League (NHL), NASCAR, and College Football Playoff. “When you put that together with March Madness and baseball playoffs and the U.S. soccer that we have, it’s a very robust offering for consumers that they can watch on TNT in the U.S. all year round,” 4. John Skipper and David Levy will handle rights deals for Unrivaled, a women’s three-on-three basketball league slated to launch in January. And Levy’s Horizon Sports & Experiences would sell sponsorships. Levy: “It’s like a penny stock that can go to $10 in a year from now.” 5. Am I counted in the ratings if I stream a Los Angeles Lakers game on Spectrum SportsNet via DirecTV Stream from an East Coast city? I talked to a ratings expert to find out. Plus, a new consensus is emerging as the clock ticks on the NBA rights deals: WBD probably shouldn’t bid on a package that it really can no longer afford. “Either way, it’s going to hurt,” said Michael Nathanson, a senior research analyst at MoffettNathanson LLC. “Given the pressures on linear, he has to have a more flexible cost base. His company doesn’t have the scale of The Walt Disney Company or Comcast, so he can’t compete at those prices. He just can’t.” LightShed Partners media and technology analyst Rich Greenfield believes Zaslav has already made his decision to walk, even if he hasn’t said so publicly. “For Zaz, the problem is that spending $2.5 billion or more versus $1.2 billion for half the number of games and a substantial reduction in playoff games—the math is so problematic,” Greenfield said. “Saying no to the NBA makes sense as long as you believe it doesn’t lead you to being dropped. The multibillion-dollar question is: Does Zaz have enough confidence that he can convince cable operators not to drop his channels.” https://lnkd.in/e2zFR7a3

Short form content + Texas HS Basketball Playoffs = fun times I recently went to a playoff game this past week, and decided to create a little what todays athletes call a "mixtape" which is not at all what these edited content is but I find it fun lol. Just short and simple won the game tbh, wanted something really fast to put out for the star player. He's ranked top in the nation apparently. Better use of sound design in this edit in my opinion. #sportsvideography #basketballvideography #sportsmedia #adobepremierepro
